2.0 HDi Cam Belt 2007 Who makes it ?

Post by jaizan »

Who makes the OEM belt for the 2.0 HDi engine in the 1987 C4 ? (136 hp)

How many teeth ?

I know the original factory belt in my previous 306 1.9 TD was a Gates, so that's what I got at replacement time.

Can't help you there although I expect someone will. I always get mine from Ebay, most are made by firms that I recognise.

Couldn't be certain on that engine, but Gates seems to be Citroen's favourite brand of timing belt. I know that Gates was standard on the 8v 2.0 HDi. Dayco however seems to be the most common aftermarket belt make (again at least for the 8v 2.0 HDi). I have had genuine Cit and SKF kits each using a Dayco belt. Personally I wouldn't be too bothered about using either Dayco or Gates, in my experience they are both equally good.

Well I just loosened the top cover to check it today:
Engine code = 10DYVD PSARHR

Cam belt reads 96 408 286 08 Gates Powergrip 40978 1" HSN

1997 C4.

Very similar to Ford part number 1231979

How long does it take to do this, including water pump & tensioners ?
Think my 306 took about 5 hours to do the lot, but it looks like there is more space on this car.

The Haynes manual says to remove the starter to lock the flywheel. Think I'll just put it in gear for that part, unless there is a more cunning method.

Starter motor takes about 10 minutes to get off a 2.0hdi and makes locking the flywheel very easy - dont always see eye to eye with Haynes but i do on this point.

Just putting it in gear won't be sufficient to maintain the timing. I would bet that with the engine in gear the crank will still be free to rotate by 10 or 20 degrees either way due to play and backlash in the various components.

In truth if you are feeling brave you could probably get away without bothering to the pin the crankshaft, I have done so before for various reasons, but it isn't advisable. Haynes suggestion to remove the starter motor is sensible. With it removed (which doesn't take long) the timing hole is easily accessible. I have tried before to insert the timing pin without removing the starter motor, and it just resulted in a wasted 15 minutes and oily arms.

just mark the crank and camshaft pulleys with paint and remove the tensioner. Replace all parts including idler.

Adjust the tensioner correctly.

Turn the engine 2 rounds fully camshaft sprocket should turn two fully rounds and check there is no huge resistance. also check the two markings you just made before removing the belt if they align then you are done.

Regarding the belt.

Original is gates from factory but, seems Dayco will also do the job.

Tension on the belt should be at the end like this.
