I'm pleased you're tinkering with the lights again Alasdair. The World of Xantias needs them.

Pop over, I've got sheets of the perfect stuff. I think I have 3mm and 6mm. Probably you can get it cheaper locally than you can drive here though. Shame, it'd be nice to see you.

Very sad news about Beryl.
I'll keep you what we have, it's offcuts from big sheets and I expect you'd get 2-3 lenses from them.
I'll measure tomorrow if I remember, maybe postage is cheaper than fuel and buying it yourself.
You've got my number haven't you? The new one? I'll text you now, if you text me something along the lines of headlight plastic at about 13:00 I won't forget. Otherwise, tomorrow, to me this conversation never took place.

Beryl's passing is a tragedy :( She did lay some gorgeous eggs though... I have happy memories of both her and her eggs :)

May she forever perch in peace...

Test fitting a replacement plexi-glass insert into the "glass frame"
GlassTest.jpg
This is a test using a scrap piece of plexi-glass that is way to thick and has a pattern on it.......the edges are rough atm as well. I am looking for a suitable sealant now that will be both strong and flexible, but will not yellow under intense UV light.

Alasdair and I spent the whole of Monday this week going through his Activa suspension system with a fine-tooth comb...

First up was a check of all spheres. The two rear corners were found to be down enough to warrant replacement. They were both at 10 bars.

Then we did a pressure test and this, measured with my in-line pressure gauge just after the regulator showed the regulator was working well. The regulator cuts out at just over 170 bar and cuts in at just below 150 bar. The pump was seen to be healthy and making up the 20 bars between cut-in and cut-out very quickly; the gauge also showed a very low level of pressure leakage when the engine was stopped.

All in all, the hydraulic system is in fine health.

However, the hydractive system refuses to switch hard to soft and the car appears to forever remain in hard mode.

An ELIT check of the ECU shows all is well and an oscilloscope on the lines to the hydractive electrovalves show a perfect drive waveform. The diode mod (via an e-crofting box) is good and the electrovalves themselves can be heard to operate normally. They both hum and click as expected.

I'm at a loss to explain this as my own Activa shows a very distinctive change between hard and soft. We compared the electrovalve drive waveforems with mine and they were identical.

The oddest thing is that the car itself out on the road rides absolutely beautifully and I was able to assess this from the best place; the passenger's seat :) It really is the most lovely ride and easily as good as my own...

I'm thinking either there is a problem with the electrovalves themselves or there is a lot of muck around them despite the LHM looking very clean and fresh which is upsetting their action...

Alasdair is going to try a dose of Hydracringe and see if that helps...

In the meantime, any thoughts on anything we may have missed?

Had SUCH A GOOD TIME on Monday :).....huge thanks buddy

Was speaking to David about this whilst at Donington yesterday....he asked "could it be that 2ltr Activa work differently than "original" V6 cars ?"

Good point but it shouldn't do as the suspension systems are largely the same and when the electrovalves are operated for soft mode there should, I would have thought, be a noticeable difference...

But then, perhaps the V6 is just very much more heavily damped in the hydractive sphere blocks and just a puny human push on the car is insufficient to see a difference...

Do the V6 and TCT activas have differing Hydractive Sphere Block part numbers I wonder? there might be a clue...

The V6 Exclusive, different animal I agree, definitely shows a big difference between hard and soft.

Might be worth seeing if your Lativan spares donor V6 shows the same but them we don't as yet know the health of the hydraulics on that one but I can do the checks when I come and see you... That would be a really interesting thing to do actually... If there are obvious hydraulic faults we can fix them and then see and arrive at a benchmark..

All I know is this has got me intrigued and I want to get to the bottom of it.

I'll not rest until I do ;)
