I was more concerned about its structural integrity  I don't know whether it was original German or a later Soviet refit - if it was a later refit then I'm amazed I got up and down it without it collapsing

One of the other pictures on David's Flickr album may appeal.

Western Champion bit off home ground on the Settle to Carlisle line.

Those Western locos always remind me of Holidays in Devon especially around Teignmouth and Dawlish where the line hugs the Coast.

I always enjoy a classic train picture Neil, especially a nice Western diesel-hydraulic... Gorgeous looking locos...

As a kid I used to watch them go past at the bottom of my maternal grandparent's garden...

Does annoy me on that stretch of line past Dawlish when people in window seats on that side don't look out.

However I'm vastly amused at the reaction to waves, or even just spray, hitting the train.

(just hope the new GWR trains were designed with the operating conditions in mind - because the X-Country trains weren't, so they don't run when it's rough)

I would love to ride that stretch of line alongside Dawlish, especially in something heritage, steam or diesel :D

Spotted on Facebook...

Given my deep love of clocks and cycling this would be perfect; especially if it was a pendulum clock...

Yes, just about, with retirement looming :-D

I rather like it!

In the advert it says:
The perfect present for anyone who loves flowers.
That should read "The perfect present for anyone who loves cycling"

Well, of course, I do it all the time but still, if the connections work out I'll stay on the slow train to Exeter, so I can revel in it.

Yes, you can do it steam or diesel hauled from time to time, something to think about when you've already got as far as Somerset?

Meanwhile, try and find some of those prints of some amazing paintings of steam trains on that stretch in conditions that health & safety considerations would close now.
