Nope, 'fraid not :(

I have a feeling that could be the answer to a few suggestions.

Was it what you might call vintage or modern?

This offering from Abarth certainly has the name which may suggest something a bit closer, its a....

Abarth 2400 Coupé Allemano 1964 so well back into the vintage side of the vintage.....modern continuum

I'd say 60s to very early 70s for era, and your Abarth above is geting close in overall style. I think the badge was on the bonnet though..... possibly !
It seemed smaller than a 2002 - quite light and nippy.

Well the 1st one was obviously a 127, the 2nd one looked like a Ferrari or AC (428?) - was there an Abarth 2300 (the only Fiat I can think of that looked remotely like a 2002)?

Abarth version of the Fiat 131? Would be *vaugely* the same sort of two door coupe shape?

That would be getting very close.... if only they did an Abarth version without all the wheel arches and plastic bits #-o

Bobins.......

Lets look at the evidence....

Badge on Bonnet.....bit like a Porsche badge.....(with the emphasis on "bit like" for the sake of this proposal)
bit like a BMW 2002 (with the emphasis on "bit like" for the sake of this proposal)

Heres a BMW 2002

Image
BMW Touring 1802 dutch licence registration 61-BK-10 pic2 [CC0], by AlfvanBeem (Own work), from Wikimedia Commons

and here's a proposal which ticks the "bit-like" criteria for the badge, its position and the general shape sort of...

Image
Panhard-Levassor 24CT (1964) pic1 [CC0], by AlfvanBeem (Own work), from Wikimedia Commons

It is French so in its natural environment...and the badge in close up

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/744/2074 ... 4ca15c.jpg

Anything over a 50% possibility and I'll rest my case :-D

By jove !! I think he's cracked it :-D That looks highly like it......... although I didn't exactly get a chance to study it at the time #-o My main view had been from the rear approaching at speed.
Superb powers of deduction and research - extremely well done. You get an extra couple of points for that :)

Now, here's one for you. Back in 1986 I saw a car driving along the road. It had 4 wheels and a sloping roof. any ideas what it was ? :rofl2: :^o

Series of imprecise spots for me today a TR4/4A/5 in white up towards the Beehive pub, no reg-no, no picture, and couldn't tell which variant it was.

At the Beehive pub parked up a red and white 2CV.

A late 20's early 30's open top Bentleyesque sports car in green.

and even if I had my camera with me it would have taken too much nerve to get out and photograph an Eastern-European looking fairly bright green smallish shooting-break type thing together with a garden full of people at Seaton Sluice.

I will do a bit digging around on that one. It wasn't of course, but did it have the appearance of a Saab 96 estate if ever there was one.....

All in all not a very accurate spotting performance from me today!

Well Simon Cars example of a trabant estate, fits the colour exactly, and the rear end is slightly Saab 96 estate-ish

I was heading northbound on the M3 when I saw a buttercup yellow Lotus Europa going the other way.

Might as well have a picture.....and a "name that pop star" quiz

https://d3d9npwwya966f.cloudfront.net/w ... ropa-8.jpg

Of course George Best had one as well but that would have been too easy

https://d3d9npwwya966f.cloudfront.net/w ... ropa-7.jpg
from Influx.co.uk The original drawings that became the Lotus Europa were, apparently, based on a design sketch by Ron Hickman. Hickman was the South African designer who not only drew many early Lotus cars, but who also designed the Black&Decker workmate!
and this being the FCF, its reasuring to know that the S1 came with a 1.5litre Renault 16 engine.

Carry on Classic Spotting...

Saw a lovely pair today...

The Yellow Jensen Interceptor again, but standing side by side, on the block paving drive with a Rover P5B 3.5 Litre Coupe...chrome a plenty and a dark green. It was J-Reg.

The yellow Jensen is a temporary feature, as the chap was just looking after it for his son while he was abroad, but I did ask him which he preferred. He chose his own of course, the Jensen being a touch more thirsty than his Rover :).

No chance of any photos didn't seem appropriate so here's couple of examples...
The Yellow Jensen

The Arden Green Rover and an AA Box
http://www.westendclassics.co.uk/images ... /rovp5.JPG

yes and where on earth is that AA BOX!!!!

If you had to choose between the two what would you have :?:

So you'd choose that over the Rover 3.5 P5B Coupe with its own AABox :-D

Regards Neil

PS the answer to the whosthatpopstar? teaser. Draped over the Lotus Europa, was none other than Barry Gibb of course coincidenally wearing the same trousers as George Best :-D
