306 GTI 6 Rattle

Hi, i know this is the citroen forum but i have put this post on the peugeot forum and had no response:
I have purchased a 1997 306 gti 6 and at just under the redline (6900rpm) it makes a vibrating/rattling noise (quite loud every gear at same rev)
Has any one got any ideas? Or is this a common problem or are they all like it?

Sounds like a process of elimination has to start.
Does it do it while in Neutral? This could eliminate anything drive/transmission related.

Yes, my friend suggested this and t does make a rattle just under 7000rpm.

Could it be the exhaust or a exhaust heatshield rattling, have had that before myself.
