Nothing's impossible Davie... On the FCF even off-topic threads can be dragged off-topic...

In fact it already is as the original subject was Cosford and now look where we are ;)

Off-topic talking about being off-topic and you can't get much more off-topic than that

Notice the steps into the Nimrod. They were doing tours for £5 Unfortunately they didn't appear to be operating whilst we were there.

I prefer a Snickers personally and much prefer it by its old name - a Marathon...

A good thing to eat when you're running one too - lots of good protein in it plus a good sugar hit to give you a surge of energy...

Nice to see a Nimrod has been preserved :)

I've actually been in a Nimrod at an airshow when I was young, I think it was one of the North Weald Fighter Meets. I remember it really well and the crew said it stank of something when it was in the air, Kerosene I think. I'll have to ask Dad, he'll remember.

demag wrote: 02 Aug 2017, 10:19 We went to Cosford with the grand children yesterday. The weather wasn't too bad, just one short light shower and there was so much to see. I just clicked away with my phone camera but the one thing that became apparent was the planes are so large its a struggle to get them in the shot.

Fully agree Dave - I have been to Cosford twice, both to Citroen rallies. Highly impressed.
Second time I dragged a slew of grandchildren along and they still talk about it.
A great day out!

At least they saved one!

I think the rest were unceremoniously scrapped :(

Er slightly off , but still a bit on, still very much RAF Cosford. As well as the planes, there were also the people.

There's always a bit of room for "British Pathe News" I would hope.....nice little film, Cosford was very big on sports, and a venue for many televised indoor athletics events.

while on the topic, I researched this prior to our French trip and if memory serves me correctly, its just North of Paris. We didn't actually go in the event, but it looks well worth a visit

A PROPER Nimrod has one Kestrel engine and four wings, he said in a Fury (but even Elgar admitted there could be variations).

(a proper one lives near me, same museum as the "other Nimrod's" predecessor - the Shackleton which remarkably was in service until 1991)

My Great Grandfather used to have his own blimp, and designed (among other things) airships. He also designed a deliberately completely useless life preserver for use when aeroplanes ditched in water.
