Insurance

Post by Eddie Nuff »

What happened to the days of Classic Car insurance being dirt cheap? Been trying to find insurance for the XM and the Xantia, as in my sig, and I don't know whether to laugh or cry. £375 is the cheapest so far, with Footman James, Barry Grainger is hilarious.

Is this kind of premium standard fare now for two old cars on restricted mileage?

That's outrageous Neil

Adrian Flux did my Activa for £165 last year... They might be worth a punt...

Else you might be better getting them on a multicar with Admiral and the like perhaps?

I am insured for any car I own, unlimited numbers of cars, and fully comp on any other car I drive, to a maximum of £7000 per car and just renewed it for £535. I told the company I have multiple cars and change them often, they said take a motor trader policy. I empathised that I am not a trader, they said thats ok we shall put you down as part time from home.

Tbh £165 - £230 doesn't make my two look overly silly. I expected about £200 - £225 for the pair.

Are those quotes to insure just one driver only?

Considering the number of cars that pass through my hands this sounds spot on.

Pedantic question though:- what does 'any car you own' mean in their terms? Proof of purchase? Log book in your name? . .

Any motor vehicle which is,
1. Your property
2. The property of your spouse if he or she is declared as a driver on this policy
3. Held in trust by you or in your custody or control for your motor trade buisness
4. A vehicle leased to you on a lease agreement with a minimum initial duration of 12 months.

Any trailer attached to a vehicle above.

As far as I can make out they dont have to be registered in your name, just be in your custody or control. It does go on to say you are covered if you dont inform them, but if you dont inform the insurance and put it on the insurance database you are liable to be stopped by every police car with an anpr. You are still covered but will have to prove that to mr policeman.

You need to be careful with that, insurers won't easily accept no claims bonuses from motor trade policies should you want to return to a private car policy.
I had forty years of no claims on my trader policy but couldn't get anyone to accept it when I retired despite it being in my own name and me the sole driver for most of that period.
I had to continue for another couple of years with the trade policy before I managed to persuade LV to give me a private one and accept the ncb.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

I still have one car insured with privilege with my no claims on it that I dont pay! Its the 107, because my son is a driver on it. To put him on the trade policy was going to cost near 5 grand due to his age. So the 107 is still in my name, him a named driver and we declare that the car is shared between us equally so thats all ok. He has his Fabia insured in his own name, and his civic is sorned just now, so he is getting no claims also

Interesting; so swmbo could keep her car on her insurance, I could insure a car for me and my daughter to share, and also have this kind of insurance for the many cars that pass through my hands.

Highly interesting, may have to give them a ring about a trade policy. if we got anywhere near that sort of price it'd be perfect for us...
