Tubular bells was my first LP....I was looking for a short excerpt from it on you tube to put up, didn't find much. I do remember a milk advert I think which used it. Have to see if someone has preserved that for posterity...may even have an electric milk float on it.

This was my first LP and is still around somewhere - scratched to b*****y and replaced several times now.
Probably when I was about 12 or 13.
On Thursdays in school assemble our maths teacher would play classical music and I loved this from first hearing it, especially Anitra's dance Ingrid's Lament and Solveig's song.
Never bothered going to assemble except on Thursdays.

Youngest daughter played this all the time while pregnant in the hope it would influence her unborn son to appreciate classical music. No evidence of that yet and he is 13 in a couple of weeks.

I selected Anitra's dance so I would know what it sounded like and just let autoplay play on...its now gone from Greig to Camille Saint-Saens Dance Macabre!

I like the random "finding" of music I wouldn't normally consciously select myself from a lead in suggestion!

That is one or YouTube's best sides.
I have found far more music I love by pure serendipity on YT than any other way.
Practically everything I have bought in the past ten years.

The Scott Joplin rags were quite ubiquitous for a while. May even have the LP here somewhere.
Another swerve:

I called in at The Sage to book for Joanne Shaw Taylor as doing it online failed miserably and I was passing anyway.

Looking at their program, there are a lot of interesting bands featured over the next few months, some of which I am quite tempted by.

Was it all so dire then? I think I'd gone all country rock by then, so never really understood the emergence of punk (although quite liked the product) - now, in retrospect, I do!

Dont think there's much punk in that chart for 1974, but it will be along soon! Don't think disco had much of a foothold either.

Excellent variety at the Sage Steve and plenty who have performed at the Pickled Egg too. Have darkened its doors on a few occasions...have seen Nearly Dan twice, who are excellent, sound great in Hall 2. The weakest link is possibly the vocals, but no worse than actual Steely Dan. As the aging performers carry on this seems to be the weakest bit. Sting showed no frailty in such matters when I saw him performing there though, and there are other notable exceptions.
