And that one IIRC.
Remember going to see that with the crowd from work after a 36 hour shift.
Never saw it, slept through the whole thing :(

Still dig this out and play it quite a lot.

Not sure I am working from the same list as you.
I have a lot of the above but some on the list I have not heard of, others never listened to and others just don't like.
No apologies for the Grace Potter/Stones, hadn't heard of it until I saw the Grace Potter one and it was my introduction to her - she is usually much better than that.

Oops - Just seen your link there Neil :(

Off that list I liked Je T'aim - soft spot for Jane Birkin after Blow Up.
Tragic about her daughter :(

Rubbish photo, she was gorgeous - the David Baily portrait exquisitely so but NSFW.

Nothing to do with anything above, just beautiful.

Interesting that from the chart for that week there were 2 Je T'aime's with the one from "Sounds Nice" the only one that would appear on TOTP's so thats the one which would have ended up on the reel to reel :-D

I think there was a definite change from the 60's to the 70's almost literally at the change of the decade and one of the records which marked that change for me was this one.....

...and still in the chart in October, the former number 1, and a memory jerker song for that time..."In the Summertime" by Mungo Jerry.

Find it yourself on youtube if you want to be transported back to the summer of 1970, jumpers for goalposts, and your first awareness that the Brazilians were very very good at the beautiful game :-D

Its good refreshing the memory and maybe picking up on decent songs which may not have regustered at the time.

I do like a bit of steel guitar these days and this entry in the charts "Pretty Woman" by Juicy Lucy has a decent amount, and its a good pacey rhythm for what is basically a blues song. Good stuff in my opinion.

Not sure you're allowed to play "In the Summertime" on a jukebox - you're certainly not allowed to broadcast it anymore.

Wasn't aware of that Van but can't find find any evidence. Presumably could refer to the line "Have a drink have a drive go out and see what you can find". The song was however also used in an anti drink driving campaign.

Found this little analysis, and there's nothing on wiki, and at the time it certainly wasn't "banned by the BBC" like Relax or probably Je t'aime as well.

I have removed the link, just in case. Find it yourself on youtube if you want to enjoy it for what it was at the time to me as a 11 year old, just a great summer song with a catchy beat (and no drums just stamping feet!).

Je T'aim Non Plus was definitely banned by the Beeb.
IIRC only the pirate stations played it.

That was the line that did it - you just never hear it played any more. Shame, it was the archetypal summer song (but then "Rock'n'Roll Christmas" was one of THE best Christmas songs now, alas, lost for ever as everyone is hellbent on rewriting (denying?) history.

The beeb also banned every Chuck Berry number that named a car (so that's virtually his whole output at the time) - oh, & "Tell Laura I Love Her" which, supposedly glorified. possibly even encouraged, suicide.
