Dismal town hall now used as a craft market. Built 1788 but abandoned 1900.

Dismal maybe but a lot less dismal for having a lovely blue faced clock

Not quite used to these touchscreen iPad thingies my typing requires a good old fashioned keyboard!

Still, canal locks which are not black, white, or a combination of the two, may be either non-existent or a suitable enough rarity to feature on POTD

Not a red canal lock, but something very red from Bergen, some way from home, using lock number 3 and the Welland Canal in preference to going via Niagara Falls to get between
Lake Erie and Lake Ontario

Have to say this particular blogger has dedicated a lot of time to putting together an excellent record of clocks across the country...

If you can navigate round his posts he has covered many of the Towns in the UK.

I just put Newcastle into the search box and up popped this little page. No I have never bothered raising my eyes to the rooftop of Emmerson Chambers near Monument metro station but it does have a spendid green clock at the top of it. Next time I am in the vicinity I will of course.

Now this is an iconic clock in Newcastle all the better for being picked out at nighttime in good old fashioned neon, and as I understand it but haven't found out for sure has been/is being restored to its former glory.

Canal locks gives me an idea for a future photo theme when out on my bike... We have a lot of locks around here...

Here's one (or three!) to kick of with, the Three Locks near Linslade...

Be careful when cycling around near some of the locks, Jim. It is not unusual for bureaucracy to come up with very silly (read as dangerous) ideas for locks that have then been put into place. Two come to mind; Shiny brick walkways that look nice but, in wet weather, are more slippery than sheet ice!, And square wooden snubbing posts (easier and cheaper to make than rounded posts) that means ropes don't slide but stop dead (if there is ANY tension on them), causing boats to then slam into the side of the locks!

I'm not a fan of riding tow-paths either - the water is too close for comfort

I try to take all my pictures from safe vantage points such a bridges...
