Simon, thanks for the summary :) I must confess still unable to digest more than a few lines so that was perfect :)

Shame about the 208... What would be interesting is for you now to drive my 207 and see how that compares... I suspect you'd feel the same...

All I know is getting back in a Xantia after a spell in the 207 is bliss!

Yes, the Xantia V6 feels amazing to drive after driving other cars! :) I don't think the 208 is bad per-se, I think it's just this 1.2 engine that really lets it down.

I drove the 208 again this morning and the first two times I drove off in 1st the clutch was shuddering quite badly. Huh ? On a car that has done 5k ? There is something seriously wrong with the clutch on this car, shudder and biting very high both at very low mileage. I wonder if these 3 cylinder engines use a DMF like a Diesel to try to absorb some of the vibration of the engine. (Of which there is a lot)

All I can say is I'll be glad to pick up the Ion tonight. :)

I need to drive your 207 Jim. I'm convinced you're hypersensitive or there's something fudamentally wrong with it. Mine's really quite nice to drive. I read this thread earlier and took note of what rpm I use to move off in 1st (1600) which is lovely and causes no judder. Steering is sharp and well weighted, it brakes well. My only complaint is the lack of headroom as I like to sit quite upright!

Looks like a std flywheel. Does sound like it's been abused already! I was trying to think why they had the ION so long, then remembered it included a battery cycle test.

Has anyone else driven a 1.2 litre 208 and found it a complete turd ? Is this the kind of car people buy these days all in the name of fuel economy ? Do people just not care about the driving experience ? If Nissan can get the 1.2 litre petrol class right why can't Peugeot ? Words can't really describe just how much of a let down driving this car was. :?

Friend of mine up your way who works for the authorities (Building inspectorate or something) gets to use these as pool cars, amongst other things. He prides himself on liking dull vehicles for daily use. He heard I was thinking of replacing my wife's 207 with one and said "don't, you'll hate it"..

Yes, the two fundamental things wrong with it Mike are the seats made of paving slabs and the lack of suspension

Apart from that it's a great little car :-D

I'd like for you to drive it and for me to drive yours; it would be interesting ;)

Ok I'll stop teasing. :) It's from our 25 (?) year old glowworm system boiler, which decided to stop working on Saturday!
Teasing? I think you are rather overestimating the level of interest mate! :rofl2:

25 years is a decent run. Certainly better than the 5-8 that are the estimated lifespans of current offerings. Our Thorn Apollo is slightly ahead though at 36 years and counting.

Long may that continue. Thing only has I think 5 moving parts. I keep my eyes open for one being scrapped anywhere in the aim of building a spares stash...

My Potterton must be about the 35 year mark. Control unit is playing up. A solenoid I think.

It was the gas control solenoid that failed on mine.

But luckily it was only the coil that died and it is replaceable separately so it was only 5 mins to swap over once I figured out what was wrong and ordered a spare...

I had a floor-standing gas Potterton back in the early 'seventies. Great bit of kit, but always thought that placing the plastic-boxed control electrics inside and at the top of the boiler cabinet was a bit harsh! Did think of hiking it out, but never did; it just kept on working.

Much more fun was an oil-fired Rayburn, acquired with a house in 1998. Kept everything snug, cooked the best meals ever, and thrummed like a soft engine room. Seriously expensive to buy, these days!

I dream of having a Rayburn one day. I love them to bits and yes, for a foodie like me they are heavenly :D

They cook the very best cakes and bread because their oven heat is so even...

One well-known member on here has one and I'm always very jealous when I visit...

They are indeed amazing.

When I get back to living in Cottages rather than Caravans I plan on having one too.

Just avoid the gas ones, they are not so good if you like to have any change from energy bills.
