Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
Bit of unsurprising EV News, reported here Autonews-Europe
Carmakers want China to soften electric car quota
I would hope that the Chinese would give them the courtesy of a well-thought out and diplomatic two word reply.
Regards Neil

Four letters would be a better response.
F.O.A.D.!
Failing that, here is an answer they could use, translated into diplomatic phraseology;
"Consume Faeces and Mortify!".

Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
There's a few ways that could pan out. If the Chinese stick to their policies and force the car manufacturers to produce more electric cars, then there's a chance some of the manufacturers will churn out (more) half baked and insufficiently tested cars which will have dubious failure rates - and the rest of the world gets a slice of those cars as well. Or...... the Chinese stick to their policies etc, the manufacturers hastily churn out (more) half baked and insufficiently tested cars but then rapidly learn from their mistakes and up their game to produce reliable and well thought out electric cars.

Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
'Dislocation and disruption' is the best thing that could happen to the (ICE) automotive industry right now. It might concentrate a few minds.
The references to the manufacturers' desire to 'purchase NEV credits' speaks volumes. They've been rumbled, and they don't like it.

Trains not strictly in the topic title, but another progress sapping announcement today, of the cancellation postponement or whatever of a several electrification projects, in favour of running Hybrid locos which can run on diesel or overhead lines.
There will be some news reference which gives chapter and verse, just heard the bare bones on the radio.
Regards Neil

Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
At the risk of being told off (for not advocating going green) I think it is a good idea that some trains are hybrid in essence. I am old enough to remember when there were power cuts (due to strikes), and I can imagine such strikes (if they were to happen again in the future) would affect rail travel, even if the rail unions had not come out on strike in sympathy.

Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
Network Rail did a guesstimate on how much it would cost and how long it would take, like all government run companies they guessed wrong, the guess went up fivefold in just two years and the government has called a halt before it all got any more out of hand.

...and the already eye-wateringly expensive HS2, offering only to shave a tad off an already fast route.

Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
Reading a bit more about it it looks as though the Welsh end of the West Country line had little expectation of being finished in the next ten years the way it was going, too much disruption of the highway infrastructure to contend with, too many bridges to demolish and rebuild.
Maybe it will come back in the future and the current 'new' plan will be an acceptable interim fix.

This is virtually 100% off topic, but having followed this topic from day 1, when I came across this on one of the large oil companies websites I couldn't quite believe it.
