I was out cleaning some of the crud off my engine yesterday afternoon in preparation for the annual misery when a neighbour came out and zoomed off on his bike.
He has lived there for about eight years and is a postman.
As he rode off, this popped into my head:

Haven't heard it or thought about in in fifty or more years.

The other way round a song which many people think is the Beatles but was a cover!

apparently the one of the writers didn't like this production much and took on the production himself with The Isley Brothers

A name in the posts about lawnmowers immediately brought this to mind:

I just missed seeing him in Middlesborough, died before I booked the tickets :(

I don't listen to male singers/musicians much but Townes is one of those few.

Long lead in but interesting anyway.
Lyle Lovett does a very good cover of it.

He was a great friend to another of my favourite bands, Cowboy Junkies, and toured with them frequently, this is a cover of one of their songs:

Has to be said the CJs do it better :(

Many say that this is the definitive cover of "Dead Flowers"

For my money, Samantha Fish just aces it.

Always was one of my favourite Stones numbers, which marked me down as being a trifle strange - but had no idea that they performed it live, at all, much less over at least 25 yrs - OR that there were so many versions of it.
It's an amazing tribute to Mick'n'Keef's ability to produce material that when performed by others sounds like the sort of stuff that would've inspired them in the first place.
Best version? Prob'ly the Lost Highmen - with Keef taking lead vocals (obviously lends itself to a certain delivery style!) - & duelling guitars with Ryan Adams.

Then, all in the interests of research, via New riders of the Purple Sage, we get back to - "Truck Drivin' Man" (not to be confused with "Drug Store Truck Driving Man").

others:-
Jeep XJ Cherokees x 3 :?
'96 Cadillac Eldorado
'99 Cadillac STS :|
& the numerous "abandoned projects" #-o

I don't know if he was mentioned specifically but he sang this from the "Blade Runner" soundtrack.

I recall, when I was still at school I think, something called "Pennies From Heaven" where he sang at least some of the songs.
Didn't pay too much notice as I thought it was awful :(

Mixed up memories there as it was from 1978 :(

Pennies From Heaven

Just spotted that Peter Skellern died 17/2/2017.
I have a very vague memory of that but it may be another one of those false memories.

Heard a record on the radio today which brought back some memories, of reel-to-reel tape recorders and recording top of the Pops. Bobbie Gentry topped the UK charts with it in October 1969 and looking down the chart list there are quite a few songs on it which made it to the reel to reel. Here's the chart list for 12th October 1969.

http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/si ... 1012/7501/

Bobbies song is a Hal David and Burt Bacharach composition "I'll never fall in love again" and her version is the iconic recording for me, although Dionne Warwick did it in the US before Bobbie.

100 not out!

I remember virtually all of that top 50 I'd be 10 at the time!

Probably didn't appreciate Edwin Starr at the time would have preferred Delta Lady and Honky Tonk Women at the time!
