I just cannot be aggressive, in driving or anything else these days... Not got the energy to waste on it...

Same here... City aggression of all sorts... This place I call home is the biggest sort of place I can tolerate...
MikeT wrote: 12 Jul 2017, 14:01 I must give credit to a lot of the country-walkers down here though. Most of them walk on the correct side of the road and face the oncoming traffic. Something I've not seen in a long time before and I for one really do appreciate it. It's much safer for both parties.
I find few know that rule. I guess a lot of walkers down your way are, what's the word?, skilled and well disciplined and walk with great enthusiasm - wrong words but I think you know what I mean - professional walkers who care about their sport for want of a better word... Just like my attitude to cycling...
MikeT wrote: 12 Jul 2017, 12:05 I now regret not asking the officer to explain why he felt it would have been safe to overtake.
This is interesting as this is exactly the situation where I've witnessed the most near-misses and head-ons and indeed come close to being knocked off as a potential overtaker suddenly realises there's an impending head-on about to happen and sharply pulls back in...

One such incident happened very near work and I recognised the vehicle in question as belonging to a co-worker... Jolly embarrassing for him as he was recognised by other co-worker witnesses too...

A lot of this boils down to sheer impatience on the part of the driver and their urge to be a few seconds ahead at the next congestion pinch-point!

Having revised the Highway Code and the Roadcraft manual, I can only think he maybe suspected I was going to make a dangerous overtake and was preparing to come after me by positioning himself on the right to give himself best view, as practiced by pursuit drivers?

Back to cyclists... can't believe (well yes I can, I've seen worse) this fool. We're on a 50mph road (used to be NSL until a recent nasty accident at a right-turn junction) which I guess made our closing speed around 100mph. The wide-angle lens may show there was more room than I felt there was, I certainly "puckered up" as we passed. Who knows how the cyclist faired, hopefully blissfully unaware till I sounded my horn. Sorry fella!

I've seen that so many times, both from the saddle of my bike and when driving...

The cyclist is totally blameless but I bet he too puckered up a bit... I know I have in similar situations...

It's no longer very remarkable for me, it is something that happens, to a greater or lesser extent, on virtually every ride. Oddly perhaps, weekends is the worse when poorly skilled 'Sunday drivers' abound. The other lethal time to be on the road is when mums are out and about on the school run...

I know, from both cycling and learner motorbike riding, it's all too common and to be honest, I think he got closer to me than he did the cyclist. I think it's one of those drivers that gets into auto-follow mode, relying on the car in front to lead their way, as seen too many times at prioritised pinch points for instance.

I've got a classic from today's little jaunt out - nearly a head-on with a guy driving the wrong way onto a roundabout. I'm just editing out the swearing before I upload it!

I take it the editing is taking FAR longer than the incident?

Absolutely James - and less than 2 minutes later, a hideous green vauxhall something or other pulled out in front of us. I think I must check to see if I have a target painted on the the car

I once witnessed a car travel the length of Hounslow high street (including several junctions with traffic lights and having to "overtake" oncoming buses stopped at bus stops with my keeping pace on the correct side, frantically sounding the horn trying to get their attention, all in vain. Suspect it was someone from europe on auto-pilot.

My pal, sadly now deceased, once had a head on with a French lady who had been directed to the right hand lane for road works and forgotten to return to the left when the road works ended.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

I finally had time to complete the edit and upload it - had this been busier - could of been very serious!

Anybody notice the Citroen signage on the last incident in the video?
