I know what you mean Dan, it's just like an Activa feels and drives absolutely nothing like a normal Xantia...

My earlier remark was made from a performance point of view... I've owned a few V6 autos now and rebuilt their gearboxes! They are a remarkably engaging driving experience, especially in sport mode!

I'd love to have a drive in Black I have driven a sickly 1.9D Auto once in the past and it was certainly a very relaxing experience...

With me being able to drive at no more than 50mph at the moment due to my condition I'd probably find it perfect I know I could no longer cope with a V6... Gabriel is a very quick and potent performer by my standards.... That's how bad I am now

XUD9 Turbos are no slouch Jim, gabriel has a fine turbo too. Congratulations by the way, you've just won a week in my V6 when it's fixed. She can do gently and very smoothly to 50. Just don't floor it, she turns into a beast. So much so that I've not found the top speed and don't intend to. That's a first for me, I've validated the max speed of every vehicle to date. Scariest was 97mph in the LDV Pilot but the Xantia V6 steps it up to speeds I'm not going to do without a clear dragstrip.

What was it Jim? As far as I know mine hit 132mph once at surprisingly low revs and felt like it was good for a fair bit more.All heresay and rumours of course

Well... Lets say, given it was an S2 with notoriously fast speedos... The needle went just past the end before I lost nerve...

I didn't have my satnav with me but yes, I'd say around 130... Made a lovely noise and very stable at that speed too

I know of a tweaked activa tct which clocked 145 on its speedo on a test track. The sat nav was only saying 134, and also claimed to be on the M74. Im quite sure the sat nav was telling porkies

I saw a sat-nav verified 141mph out of the silex grey V6 that Jim then Citroenmad Chris, and then Dunk had after me.

This was also of course on a private test track.

I know of somebody who had an early series Jaguar XJS (with the V12 engine). Around town the fuel gauge dropped faster than a Wall Street investment banker on Black Friday. However, when he was in Germany on the Autobahn he thought the fuel gauge had failed, as it stopped moving.

Nope, it was because it had hit its most economical speed (which appeared to be in excess of 100MPH)! Once the speed dropped into double digits the fuel gauge started working again.

Sorry but there is no way that 100mph is the most economical speed for any car. Square law for wind resistance will see to that...

My Saab 900 T16 was more economical at 80mph than any other speed. The 207 seems to do about 41mpg at 85mph going off today's trip..

Only time I ever saw a fuel gauge visibly fall was when I was towing a big caravan on the back of as Nissan Serena into a tailwind going up a slight slope on the A34...

Gosh, that vehicle, even when not towing, was thirsty...
