And not dissilimar to oil-filled and -cooled transformers. Also reduces motor noise, I guess.

A possible solution to charging EV's without off street parking ?

Provided you have enough lamp posts of course... :rofl2:

That looks good but I can see all sorts of problems with access, people are already up in arms about commuters parking outside their houses.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

The point though is for the people that live in the street to use them when they're parked outside their house. They're only slow 3.6 or 7.2kW points so charge time would be anywhere from about 4-10 hours, e.g. overnight.

They're not for someone passing through to stop and use on a journey, nor are they dedicated EV charging spaces, they're just normal parking spaces.

As the streets (street lamp circuit) would need significant upgrading to cope with the current demand*, you might as well simply bury a high-frequency inductive-charging cable along the gutter/near-side, so any EV parked over it would charge. No cables, no clutter.
* most street lights are less than 100W load, and a fraction of that now they're being fitted with LEDs.
Little chance of any of that in the UK, as it would require government thought and action.

Its summer, its the cricket season so why not start with a cricket analogy. The old thread in the "nervous" nine hundred and nineties (995 replies to be precise), and hasn't put a run on the board for 9 days.

Maybe this is a bit of a hiatus period. Lots of well-intentioned plans, but a lead-in period for them to come together, for a true expansion of the new EV market with a range of new models. The affordable second hand market remains basically Leaf/Ion/Zoe with Zoe still encumbered by the dreadful battery lease arrangements.

ELEKTREK is usuallly good to keep up with latest developments albeit with a decent TESLA bias. They did do a story on a UK Bill re Electric Vehicles, and surprisingly went straight to "The Sun" for their source of information. Maybe they thought it was a green/ environmentally friendy paper from its title!

Best to keep the scoreboard moving with quick singles when you are in the 90's...

Nice to see that VW have an intention to produce the ID Buzz.................yes an electric version of the good old VW Bus presumably in trademark bright colours and two tones not greys or silver, and if they do it will all add to the variety of Electric Vehicles available.

...and why is a nondescript silver Tesla Model 3 in New Zealand, on the back of a trailer looking about as exciting as a new Vauxhall Astra.....

Very probably for a bit of this.......

Don't try this at home folks. :)

Chopping a Lithium Ion battery in half with a hatchet is not something I would be keen to try.

Ahh, good old Milton Keynes :) Always right up there on the bleeding edge!

I'm wondering where it will be located, given we have a very empty prestige car showroom in Newport Pagnell. It was a rather up-market Land Rover dealership and not far from our other prestige dealership - Aston Martin...

Thanks Simon..bit of a stutter in the 990's but yours was the 1000th reply to the thread which has taken us from this.....
What I would term a very interesting conversion by a North Carolina High School! This article has the detail.

to a cutting edge EV Experience Centre in Milton Keynes.

Question is where do we go from Milton Keynes :?: as the new "millenium" on the thread dawns..

..and Jim in honour of your 1001 st reply, as is tradition at moments such as these lets reflect for 33 seconds with the original 1001 advert!

Love it :D I still use it and it's still as good today as it ever was... Still good for getting oily marks and wet/muddy bike tracks out of the carpets...

Just seen Siemens' BE small 'plane on BBC Breakfast this morning. Reloadable battery pack, 140mph, quiet and vibration-free.... Looking good.
