Citroen Xsara 2003 Horn Advice

Unread post by chigurhm »

Hi,

The horn on my 2003 Xsara has been intermittent for a while and is now dead.

I found a post on here regarding removing the air bag, and I have completed this by removing the housing top and bottom of the steering column (3 x hex screws) and using a small screwdriver I managed to remove the 3 clips holding the air bag in place. When I was removing the clip on one side of the rear of the steering column the horn made a noise.

I would be grateful if someone could tell me which connector in the photos below control the horn, any help would be much appreciated - thanks in advance.

Not sure how the horn is activated - the wire on each side of the air bag is for the ignitors for that, suggesting the other wire is for the horn. In your middle pic there is a bit sticking out at the bottom of the air bag which might activate a switch in the back of the wheel? Has it got radio controls on the wheel? If not, then the 3rd wire will be for the horn at a guess.

Citroen Xsara 2008 Horn wiring in Steering wheel

Unread post by captainkephart »

I'd like to resurect this topic ...

[ I'm trying to bypass the clock spring with a temporary wire to activate the horn ]

Which of the wires in the steering wheel activates the horn (see photos below)?

The red wire (pic one) goes via connector unit at the right of the steering wheel (blue connector in pic 2).

I'm guessing the horn circuit is made between this red wire and the metal (earthed) body of the steering wheel (when the airbag pad is pressed by driver).
I'm also guessing that it somehow shares part of the airbag wiring? Which seem a bit alarming ...

Insight plese? Ta

Correct however you cant really bypass the rotary connector behind the steering wheel as its a simple push on/off before it goes into the com2000 unit but its a digital VAN signal that comes out the back of it, this VAN signal then goes through the BSI and onto the BSM then exits the BSM as a 12v feed to the horn.
Easiest way would be to fit a temporary switch going straight to the horn unit.

Hi Wheeler,
Thanks for clarification and hard-wired suggestion. I've now removed the contrioller unit and am following teardown advice here viewtopic.php?p=516857 - hoping for some mechanical issue comes to light ...

Doh! I thought it would be digital technofarjilator somewhere.

Imagine once its all 'AI' like HAL "I'm sorry Dave but I can't beep the horn .... why don't you go back to your Matrix power plant."

Best wishes, Capn K
