Re: The Pickled Egg-Jukebox anything goes inc sax!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

From a remembered sax solo by Michael Brecker on a track callled "I'm so proud" on Todd Rundgren's "A Wizard a true star" album, (originally written by Curtis Mayfield and performed by the "Impressions") the Impressions link brought up the "Temptations", and the temptations..David Ruffin.......so here's David's debut on the Pickled Egg Jukebox...and probably the first bit of motown...

Regards Neil

..and the sax solo, from the first couple of minutes of this....

I know that it is not Sax, but I would like this to be added (for playing at Remembrance events). The quality may not be great, but the lyrics say it all;

No yellow cards getting handed out now for not having Sax :-D

We're back to "anything goes" now title change confirms it. Of course Sax is always welcome.

Thanks for your contribution, keep them coming. I would like a full choir of contributors, sometimes its a duet with Steve and Me, a trio with me, Steve and Bobins, and a quartet when Lexi joins in. I definitely don't like it when I'm left exposed as a solo artist and solitaire's the only game in town!

In that case I will seize the opportunity to bung this in.
Unfortunately there is no live version as yet - not that there would be a difference, her live performances are said to be at least as good as the recordings.

I hadn't heard this prior to buying the CD but have listened to several others, including the originator, and can honestly say that none comes close.
She has amazed me from the age of ten and continues to do so with everything she does.
No I am not in the least biased

I am not the slightest bit religious but she is.
Her sacred songs are treasures though.
But only by her.

Pretty good for a sixteen year old - seventeen now but the recordings were made last year.

P.E.Jukebox-Trucking Songs!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Kinda like this from Junior Brown, was a background track on a youtube video I came across. Nice little guitar contraption he's got going. Thought it was Johnny Cash singing at first...

I think it has a good chance of being popular with the punters.

"Truckin' Songs" ain't that bad....I like this one as well, and I have discovered there are loads more (Six days on the Road by Dave Dudley is one (vocals sound pretty much like Junior Brown) :-D

Your "Picture Of The Day" reminded me of:

Gliders are awesome things. When I was a kid we used to go to Sutton Bank most weekends and watch the gliders.

Maybe Sigur Ros are an acquired taste but some nice footage of a glider being towed off the end of Sutton Bank Steve. :-D

I wouldn't dare predict whether trucking music is to your taste, I'm not saying I am a big fan but I do like the tracks I found, and its a new genre to add to the variety at the Pickled Egg!

Came across this tonight on a tangent from Renault 4's on tv and in movies. Hit the top of the billboard chart in the 1950's. The theme from "Picnic"

I quite like truckers' songs & have several versions of 6 days on the Road* (even have a - much misunderstood - "White Line Fever" T-shirt) how could anybody resist an album called "Hot Licks, Cold Steel & other Truckers' Favourites"

* & your starter for 10, is - what is a "Georgia overdrive"?

Had to look it up! Coasting downhill in neutral to get round the speed governor on a truck.

I really like Junior Brown, but was looking to fill a playlist on youtube with about 10 trucking songs and needed a bit of variety, so I put up a couple from Dave Dudley. Then I found my search was stopped in its tracks by "Giddy up Go" from Red Sovine which I found just too much for my taste although often regarded as a classic.

So if you have any suggestions from your Trucking favourites they wouldbe greatfully received.

Just found this from Dale Watson from his "Truckin' Sessions" Album.....nice drivin' rhythm, and bit of steel guitar as you would expect, and only this genre would produce a song about a "flat tire".

and playing on from that, this was pretty good too so on goes a brace from Dale Watson.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it an airing.

Came across this and adds a slightly different feel to the guitar/pedal steel interpretations. Its Mario Carboni bashing away at a honky tonk keyboard......like it

and for Marco's brace another truck drivin' classic

Give me 40 acres is a great song, curiously reminiscent of Albert Hammond's "Free Electric Band" - in sentiment, that is.

S'pose I should have given "White Line Fever" a shout (no it's not a reference to snorting coke, but the hypnotic effect of 100's of miles of the lane dividing lines on the Interstate - still mainly only 2 lanes, don't forget).

Must admit to still liking "Convoy" - corny, but lines like, Pigpen, them hawgs is gettin' intense up here, he's hauling dynamite & needs all the help he can get (i.e. from the long haired Friends of Jesus, in the charteuse microbus), they've even got a bey-er in th'ay-er - just so evocative!

Finally, check out any "Duke & the Drivers" album.
