Try Tears for Fears for a bit of sax you may not have heard for a while

One I missed out on last week, don't know how as I love it:

And a cover by Strawpeople - shame it doesn't show Bic Runga:

Have to squeeze in some of the Sax hall of famers

Stan Getz has to make an appearance

At the end of the "girl from Ipanema" he starts doing his stuff. This is the 1963 album....probably more good stuff if you let it play on!

Need a bit of John Coltrane too

Here he is with Equinox, a more than passing resemblance to the Sweeney theme tune!

Regards Neil

Ps the theme tune for world in action springs to mind again more melancholic variation for the closing as opposed to the opening credits....it was the same for the Sweeney!

Now what do this superb saxophone performance on this Steely Dan track, have in common with another TV kop Series Starsky and Hutch?

Tom Scott did them both!

and he also memorably played sax on this

[huge swerve]

The title instantly reminded me of a very non-sax song
A bit surrealistic but very powerful.

Patti Smith, "Birdland"

Huge swerve away Steve anything goes!

Heres two more Sax legends from me

Wayne Shorter is another legendary performer on the Saxophone, has played on many of my own personal favourite tracks with from Steely Dan, to Joni Mitchell and Carlos Santana.

He makes a great gentle and moving contribution to this Bruce Hornsby song perfromed by Don Henley

Sorry youtube you haven't come up with the official video, but our French friends at Dailymotion have, albeit with the added hardship of having to click to view :-D

Michael Brecker is another master performer on the saxophone who's collaboration credits, no coincidence, cover a broad range of my favourite artists, and tracks.

I don't think I have heard a more moving interpretation of "Auld Lange Syne" at the end of Dan Fogelberg's "Same old lang syne" whose melody it is said has a bit of the da-da-da-da...da-da da da da from the 1812 Overture in it :-D

Another swerve - just been listening to this on an American forum (The Commander In Chief is Norwegian though)

Been aware of her for a few years now, another clever girl, despite the get-up.

Sorry to subvert the thread but since watching the above have watched her quite a lot more.
I don't like all her stuff but a lot is superb.

The Ibanez Falchion guitar is unique to her. She is a frontman for Ibanez.
She always performs in a faux-military uniform (to reflect her stage name) often with seven stripes and or pips to echo the seven strings of her guitar.

There is a delightful interview with here and her managed/videographer - who is also her mother :)

She isn't limited to guitar playing either

She also paints and draws and has written a childrens book.
And finally some guitar tapping just for Neil:

Always good to get new stuff to widen our musical taste and knowledge at the Pickled Egg..but thread subversion is not to be taken lightly.

Perhaps a voluntary penance of two more Sax Trax, and we'll put the theme to bed till the next time.

Have to admit I very nearly went down a Motown tangent with a bit of David Ruffin myself

Back on Sax :)

Literally - Polly Harvey (multi-instrumentalist) started out playing sax but dropped it saying playing it made her sick.
Recently she has readopted it.

Have to say she is looking terrific still.

I have to admit that I was constructing my Polly post for ages and hadn't seen your judicial sentence handed down. :)

With reference to the Ibanez seven string above, this young lady also plays a very pretty Ibanez but not a seven-stringer.

I may have posted these previously.
