But a song has appeared in a Xantia (advert that is)

And having been through a few and heard nothing the remotest bit notable, up pops Vangelis

The Pickled Egg-phone tapping!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

The Pickled Egg Landlord was disappointed to read Gibbo's comment on another thread after a visit to another well known hostelry...
Gibbo2286 wrote:Had lunch in Weatherspoons in Gloucester on Tuesday, looking around on every table there was someone engrossed in tapping away at their phones, the table next to us had four adults all glued to their phones, food going cold and in the end left uneaten.

A scene something like this no doubt

Well a softly softly strategy is to be employed at the Pickled Egg with a little gentle humour used to point out the absurdity should the punters get too carried away with tapping away at their mobiles. A few strategically placed cartoons should do it.....like these

If you have spotted others that could be used on a similar theme feel free to put them up!

The Pickled Egg-Sax on fire..!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Well sort of......

Lots of music has iconic "phrases" in it whether they be lyrical, vocal or instrumental.

Think of Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty...and that sax solo undoubtedly played by Raphael Ravenscroft. In a radio interview in 2011, Ravenscroft said the song annoyed him. "I'm irritated because it's out of tune," he said. "Yeah, it's flat. By enough of a degree that it irritates me at best."

You know what I mean. But who wrote it? Listen to the first bit of this, worth giving it the full play though if you like a bit of bluesy jazz

Got any other examples, not necessarily Sax Solos.

Regards Neil

PS ....and a largely irrevelvant aside. Paul Weller was choosing "Tracks of my years" on Radio 2 the other day and chose "Sound and Vision" by David Bowie. A very innovative structure to the song with the vocal first appearing well into the track. But guess who was singing on the track also. None other than the producer Tony Visconti's wife Mary Visconti. nee Hopkin. Those were the days my friend :-D

Welcome aboard Steve! There is such a lot of stuff to discover/revisit. Didn't realise Clarence Clemons had appeared on a Lady Gaga track as well! Keep the selections coming, I always give them a decent airing!
