Hello from a new member

Greetings from Mexx.
I'm so happy to join the community.
I've been reading through diff posts there and was pretty amazed by the people that want to help other and share their experience. That's wonderful.
I'd like to get acquainted with all there and get some pieces of advice I hope, cause the thing that can't be superseded - time and driving experience.
I owned my old father's Peugeot 406 and it's a pretty old car that needs some good care and upgrade.

So I'd like to ask if anyone has suggestions what to start from. I dunno know, honestly.
On the one hand, I'd like to preserve its old-fashioned look, but on the other - without compromising safety issues and performance as well.
I was thinking about buying a new tyre set, making some painting work, changing headlight and seatbelts.
There are the first questions that arise:
What summer tyres do you use?? Are they good enough?

Is it better to order genuine spare parts or analogue ones are good as well?

Haven't decided yet about the upholstery, cause it can be cleaned somehow but if I don't succeed in this I'll change it and that's all about it.

I'll appreciate any helpful tips and thoughts about my this.

I'll try to send some pics a little bit later, cause the car left at my husband's garage in London.
At the very moment, I'm investigating offered range of summer tyres at the market and options of new seatbelts.
Have you ever tried any cleaning services?? I've found that some seat covers can be bought, for instance, here http://123spareparts.co.uk/, if it isn't possible to clean them. As for the seatbelts - there are no decent options (I'm even unsure if they are represented or used ones can be bought somewhere).
As for the tyres - I've read positive reviews about Continental and Michelin, btw these are quite expensive. I guess that Goodyear and Dunlop won't be worse.
So the situation is such.
I'm ready to listen to all the suggestions of the club members.

I wonder (I do not KNOW, just wonder) if the safety belt from a similar age of Xantia might fit? If it would, try giving citroenxm (a long standing member on this forum) a shout, as he has a lot of Xantia parts.

Dunlop I was unimpressed with. Seemed good at first but were prone to punctures because the sidewalls were quite thin.

Geez - 406, "old fashioned"? I still think of 405's as modern!

Just curious, why do you want to change the seat belts?

Not sure about s/h ones, other than from a trusted source but there used to be a seat belt specialist in Kenton (which the meeja insist is NW London - although when I lived in Harrow, we were fiercely proud it was in Middlesex) which I think is still there.

Any of the on-line tire shops will give useful info., including reviews, to help chosing tires.
