I did a double-take when I saw that Romahome was a 1997 model. Until I Wiki'd C15D, didn't realise that production didn't stop until 2005, with almost 2m built.

Wikipedia includes this photo; isn't that gorgeous?

Idyllic Chris!

Bit more of background interest on "Isle of Wight's Finest" the Romahome.
from http://www.smallmotorhome.co.uk/romahomehistory.html

"Made on the Isle Of Wight by Island Plastics (now Romahome Ltd.) Romahomes are one of the most distinctive and therefore easily recognised motorhomes on the road.

The original idea of a dismountable 'caravan' on the back of a Japanese micro-truck belonged to Barry Stimson and whilst remaining faithful to Barry's original design criteria, the Romahome became better finished and more luxurious. In fact, when double-glazed windows became standard equipment and efficient space heating became an option (albeit at extra cost) it was possible to camp in a Romahome all year round

"The ease of camping and the ease of parking make Romahome one of the best Micro-Motorhomes"

Later, as experience showed that few owners ever bothered to dismount the 'caravan' from the truck, this made Island Plastics look elsewhere for a suitable base vehicle. They first chose a Citroen Visa (later the C15) as a suitable base vehicle but decided to go for a conventional coachbuilt (not dismountable) body.

The choice of the Citroen proved a massive hit, promising car like performance and economy -plus all the proven advantages of the Romahome living unit - a functional interior with a fully equipped (though tiny) kitchen and the luxury of having two full-length settees. All this in a perfectly formed package measuring less than 15 feet.

Later a Hylo variant was produced with a rising roof. The Hylo was designed to go into the average garage and under height barriers. This was also built on the C15.

Now in that piece above on a bit of a tangent I do recognise the name Barry Stimpson!

I have a feeling he was responsible for the "Stimpson Scorcher" a three wheeler based on the Mini if my recollection is correct. Could be wrong have to look it up!

Regards Neil

PS...Barry himself features in this...couldn't look more 1970's if he tried! Cozy Powell "Dancing with the Devil" in the background. :)

It's an AX.

My Friend at school's elder brother worked for Island Plastics in the early 90's.

Following on from the New Zealand "House Trucks"......in Ross on Wye, old Bedford Horsebox fanatics, who enjoy "glamping" (where is 101?) could book up for a couple of nights in one of three arranged in a little courtyard

That style of horsebox is a popular base for new age travellers' living vans - despite the deleterious effect of horse urine on wooden floors!

Well it is "A collection of interesting/awful campers/motorhomes" so bang on topic. :!: even if it falls into the latter category. You could pay a lot more for something that looks even worse in my opinion....

 Every one you see around here is a Taxi...

I don't think any are in private ownership at all - what does that say about them?

Puke-resistant back seats perhaps?
