Over at the PE library "On The Beach" was deposited by Mickeymoon so for a starter for 10 here we have "Waltzing Matilda" from the opening Titles of the Movie "On The Beach" starring Ava Gardner, Gregory Peck and (who knew) Fred Astaire and Anthony Perkins.

Now far be it for me to impose a bit of structure on FNiMN at the PE, but it may entertain to make a link between the selections. Plenty of scope with the starter there's a a wealth of music from films from Cowboy songs to Lawrence of Arabia!

PE Jukebox-Friday Night is music night-Selections please!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

I thought I could hear the "Happy Hammond" on that track Mark Stein did have some influence on Jon Lord according to wiki :)
Stein himself influenced organist Jon Lord of the band Deep Purple. Lord, in a 1989 interview said "[he] used to listen to Mark Stein of Vanilla Fudge in the late sixties. He was a useful source of tricks on the Hammond."[1]
any movie related gems from you Steve to follow up my "On the Beach' starter?

Regards Neil

I've been trying to think of some movie related music to follow 'On the beach', but as Ava Gardner and Anthony Perkins were in it, perhaps we should have some Youtube of a couple of big old diesels burbling away :-D

Lateral thinking at its best....Here's the "Perkins"

Off to find the "Gardner"

and here it is...no soundtrack apart from the Gardner itself!

I'm afraid I have difficulty remembering film music - Jackie Evancho has done a CD/DVD with film music as the theme Songs From The Silver Screen" which is the one that pops up first the theme from The Summer Of 42" is my stand out track to the extent that I bought the film to see what it was all about.
Unfortunately the DVD clip has been taken down.

The most memorable for me though is taken from "Conga" - a low-budget King Kong ripoff.
Saw the film when I was about ten and it has stayed with me - was thinking of it only yesterday.
Pinched from another film - Exodus.

Another recent one is "Walk Unafraid", an R.E.M cover by First Aid Kit and used in the film "Wild"
Again had to buy the film after hearing the song.

Not film-related but with reference to the Kiwi stuff, Hayley Westenra and Russell Watson singing in real New Zealandish.

Over on the actual FNIMN its a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald night, but I bet they didn't select "A tisket-a-tasket" from the 1942 Abbott and Costello movie "Ride em Cowboy"

But the PE has...not on you tube...proper movie clip from the film with Ella in her first movie role playing "Ruby"
