Auxiliary belt pulley.

Post by AlvinCitroenC5 »

So I am changing my aux belt and the kit comes with a new tensioner pulley and guide pulley. However the new kit I got has a different guide pulley than the old one. The second photo is the old tensioner pulley (on the old bracket), next to it is the old guide pulley. The first photo is the new guide pulley, which has a slightly larger diameter and looks beefier. The supplier says that the new guide pulley is interchangeable with the old one. I am a little worried and would like to know if that is true.

Lastly, the mechanic also says the spring on the tensioner pulley bracket us worn; do they fail often? Thank you.

The only problem I had with that spring mech, was when my massive lever slipped and broke the alloy casting. I haven't heard of the spring failing.

The spring looks 'similar' to the set up on xud9's and 11's with aircon. If this is the case, the spring itself doesn't wear but the rubber bushes in the eyelets do, and once worn the eyelets get eaten alive by the securing bolt Regarding the pulleys I can't help apart from suggesting a different sized pulley would require a different sized belt, if it is indeed compatible?
