We have just come back from a walk round the forest at the top of our garden, the bluebells are fantastic and the cat came round with us.

Birds are already on my list this year. Specifically the massively territorial blackbird.

The one who keeps seeing his own reflection in the mirrors, windows, Chromebook or anything vaguely reflective - and feeling the need to knock seven bells out of it. Means that the top of the doors of all my cars are covered in bird poo, and he's scratching the paint as well.

Usually I'm all for co-existing with nature (heck, I even wound up nursing a pigeon that got knocked out by a car back to health last year), but that sucker is on my list right now.

The Lada has a surprising amount of brightwork on it turns out when you start trying to hide it all. Likewise decent car covers to suit an estate are expensive!

The bluebells are a joy this year Peter.. Every Saturday morning I parkrun in Linford Wood and I've watched the wood from the dead of winter until now and last week when I ran whole swathes of the wood was carpeted by bluebells... Simply fanstatic

Makes you feel brilliant and makes for a lovely run Nature is wonderful!

My old pal, now sadly deceased, planted some bluebells in his garden then spent the next ten years trying to eliminate them, his son still has the task, every year they pop up again.

I have the same problem although I never planted mine!!!

They are incredibly invasive... I keep a few in some spare ground as they are so lovely but try my hardest to control then in other parts of the garden, especially my strawberry beds...

A most eXcellent X Rally today

Thoroughly enjoyed, including my bike ride around the Stamford area and just into Rutland!

I even set off a village speed warning sign on the bike. It reported me doing 22mph!!!

You could try Nasturtiums. They are a plant that will die off each year, but spread very quickly (so are good for ground cover, blocking the weeds), have nice flowers, and edible leaves and flowers. Mum used to use them (when planted early enough) to stop weeds from getting established. You will have no problems with seeds (you will be giving them away), and gardeners use them as aphid traps (thereby protecting valuable crops).

Just be glad Jim that the person in the house before you didn't plant bamboo. Lots and lots and lots of bamboo.

Shame we have neighbours as I'd have resorted to napalm by now if we didn't...Despite many hours of work on my part there's still more of it now than when we moved in.

You will be getting a speeding ticket Jim. We have bluebells coming up everywhere, I am trying to mow round them at the moment. I have never seen so many in the forest as this year, there must be about an acre of them in one area, they look stunning.

Interesting about Nasturtiums, we could do with some ground cover plants, most people have a wild patch in their garden - we have a cultivated patch.

The problem is that the bluebells are likely to be the Spanish variety, which are stronger than the English ones. I hope that, now the UK has voted to leave the EU, Spain arranges for their bluebells to leave our shores (and our bluebells alone).

You'll be lucky to get rid of Bamboo, it's a grass and it doesn't half like to spread. Nothing short of digging up the garden will stifle it, if I were trying to get rid I'd just fork out £200 and use a mini digger as it grows faster than I can dig. Chopping it won't help, the stuff will just grow faster.

I've got about 200 Bamboos here at the moment and, thankfully, they are going to be gone in a couple of months before they start reproducing. Love bamboo but don't want to tend the damn stuff at all.

The people that used to live next door planted bamboo in the front, which comes up in the gap between the edge of the drive & the fence: nothing that neat "Pathclear" (or was it brushwood killer?) won't take care of - but now it's coming through the pavement at the top of the drive & not shoots but 1" thick roots arching through the tarmac, rather like a low lying Loch Ness monster.

We have 'vigorous' bluebelks coming up everywhere at this time of year. I make no effort at all to preserve them. Just another weed, a plant in the wrong place, so got to be gotten rid of!

James, good idea, I love Nasturtiums and have a perfect piece of ground for them - they can cover a Xantia rear subframe I have in the garden...

Zel, I did your trick yesterday... I took suncream to the X rally but forgot to apply it... I'm very red-faced today
