Well I've finally caught up with the last few days of Pickled Egg Jukebox selections - and I consider myself further educated :) Particular commendations go to Joanne Shaw Taylor, Francis Lai, Rory Gallagher, and Samantha Fish. More please :-D

Well it was certainly "Friday Night is music night" down at the Pickled Egg. If you missed it excellent variety of music posted up, shame to waste it, so for new viewers to the thread just go back a few pages, and enjoy what went on!

..and also for new viewers to the thread post your own stuff up...always one or two willing recipients of a musical education down at the P.E. :-D

Landmark 20,000 views today, so that's a lot of virtual beer sales, (and an occasional skinny latte!)*.

Regards Neil

Good to see the landlord knows how to keep certain punters happy Neil ;) :-D

You'd be shocked at how many don't do decaff coffee and look at you really funny when you ask for it

I get the feeling that decaff coffee has more stigma attached to it than non-alcoholic beer!

Maybe a bit too early for Deep Purple :?:

Probably..but came across this epic track via a comment on the "World in Action" theme. Starts off with a simialr theme played on organ. Make no apologies for putting up the World in Action theme again for new viewers. It really is an awesome piece of evocative music. The Deep Purple track goes on for 10 minutes or so but again a creative piece with absolutely superb musicianship. Too long of course for X-Factor or Britain's Got Talent (now where is that sarcasm emoticon?...)

Here's the 2 then, hope you enjoy them

How about this one from Deep Purple then?

A bit different from their usual stuff and one of my all-time favourite tracks of theirs...

Neil, it's never too early for Deep Purple!

An indisputable fact Jim!

My two favourites are from the second LP I bought:

Good evening. The Hammond Organ has featured in quite a few of the tracks with its distinctive sound skillfully played by top class musicians like Jon Lord of Deep Purple. This is perhaps the other end of the scale but..

....For your delectation I give you "The Happy Hammond Goes Pop".

I am not saying its good or anything, or a must listen....this was a record which we had for our first "Stereogram" and however corny it is, brings back floods of memories for me!

If you know of anything a little more challenging from the hammond's repertoire post it up. I would describe the Happy Hammond goes pop" as light entertainment :-D

So not to everyone's taste then!

I've just put up a version of "Telstar" on pictures of the day seeing as when I let you tube run on, that was another song murdered by the "Happy Hammond". For a nice moody melancholy version in a foreign language have a look over on Pictures of the Day!

While it isn't Hammond I was initially reminded of the Wurlitzer that someone used to play prior to the Saturday flicks in the Whitby Colosseum cinema (Call 'n see 'em, as my dad would have it)

And of course the inimitable Penguin Café Orchestra, that made use of all sort of bits of flotsam & jetsam.

Music For A Found Harmonium:

And I believe a hammond features largely in this:

The Savage Rose - Dødens Triumf

Danish group, the survivors still going but now in Los Angeles, originally from Denmark.
Which I bought in 1973 after hearing it in the pouring rain, lost in Gothenburg in the company 205.
Still have the album - LP & CD.

It's actually a rather fine take on Telstar. No idea what the language is though - must be Welsh

Since posting the above I'm having a Savage Rose evening - I have the majority of their library.

This from a fairly recent concert in Copenhagen.

As an Inuit, Anisette is a Danish citizen.

And I see from recent videos that they still use the original Hammond organ - they are releasing a new CD this year to celebrate 50 years making music.

An addendum :)
I used to work, in Sweden, with a girl who was batshit crazy but a lovely girl despite that.
She was called Lillan (little one - she was tiny) and her voice was just like Anisette. Her real name was Marie Öhrn (Marie Eagle)
The firm were out on the razz in Gothenburg one evening and when they booked into an hotel there, Lennart, the boss, booked her in as Liljan Bryntefjell - a Norwegian name.
No-one knows why but he was pretty well plastered at the time.

When I needed a new email account, lilljanbryntefjell became the username in honour of Lillan or because I couldn't think of an alternative - you choose :)

Not a Hammond but a Vox Continental given a fair workout by Alan Price :-D

For the technically minded here's a pic of the "innards"
