I tend to pretty much ignore the bass in favour of the lead - do make an exception for Tal Wilkenfeld though.
This bassist is rather cool though -Scott Sutherland.

Samantha kills me with her oilcan and cigar box though.

Oh Jimmy Dewar is a big fave on bass and vocal. I mean, you can go down the Jazz route with Stanley Clarke and Jaco of course who were technically better, but I am sticking to rock atm. For a guy still working at the bass, have you ever seen anyone as cool as JPJ?
Sorry to give you work on the tags Steve :-D

On the track "Too Rolling Stoned" on the Bridge of Sighs album James Dewar literally plays one note underneath Trower's guitar for the last 4 minutes of the track, and its awesome!

By Jaco I take it you mean Jaco Pastorius who gave Joni Mitchell's iconic album "Hejira" its distinctive sound. Another one of my favourites.

Saw Seasick Steve at the City Hall, Newcastle three or four years ago and have no recollection of a bass player - sure he was on his own but probably wrong - as usual.

"Hejira" is a wonderful album Neil! I did notice the bass on that one.

I have a large glass of clove Vodka on the go and I'm currently listening to Neil's selection of the Princess Mononoke soundtrack - so I'm not too fussed about sleep at the moment :-D

Yes Heijira is so good and Jaco gives it that sound. His main work was with Weather Report. I don't want to go off on a Jazz trip though. Everyone wants that great bass player. When you look at their work credits you see why. Think of a great song. The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. With or without You by U2. Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. The Bass is what themes and bonds it together. Not always upfront but holding the structure of the song.
Danny Thompson, he has played with them all.
