C5 Mk1 airbag reset?

Post by bighairybloke »

My c5 rolled off my car lift and crushed the front bumper.
Now I have a fault on the dash about the airbag. Is it a matter of sourcing another bumper with airbag sensor from a scrapie and fitting it? Will the fault resolve without a lexia?

Cheers

It is possible that the main airbag ECU has locked itself after detecting what appeared to be an accident (they are required to do so, as the data they capture can help investigators). I do know that they can be reset, as DHallworth (a forum member) had a similar issue with a C6 he picked up (it had been curbed, which set off the airbags), and he sent the ECU off to be reset.

The air bags haven't gone off, maybe the sensor has just come detached wiring wise...will find out tomorrow when I take it off....

Then please make sure to go through the BSi reset routine, and only check the wiring with the battery disconnected. It is possible that reconnecting an airbag while the electrics are powered can set it off.

Will disconnect bat before doing anything, thanks for that. Where is the sensor? I didn't notice it from underneath, however I didn't really look for it...

I do not know where the sensor is, but the ECUs are normally in very robust cases (based on the ones I have seen). They have to last long enough during an impact to let the main airbag ECU know there is an accident in progress, so it can determine which airbags to deploy.
