Electric Vehicles Conversions-Videos

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Electric vehicle conversions, unless you go for the Scrapyard Challenge approach and cobble together some lead-acids, old forklift truck/golf cart motors etc are likely to consume lots of £'s, way in excess of a modern second hand purpose built electric car.

But it doesn't stop people doing it, and the development of supply chains/specialist converters who will do just that.

The original electric vehicles thread started out with some interesting conversions of the Triumph Spitfire. Moving on a couple of decades I wondered if the Mazda MX5 would be an interesting conversion. Over in the US which compared to the UK is a hotbed of EV Conversions, the MX-5 is known as the Miata, and yes, as you might expect, conversions have been done, and videos put up on youtube.

I am not someone who these days has any "need for speed" at all, but it strikes me that the "Miata" in this video goes like manure off a shovel :-D :!:

Of course the electric Miata isn't entirely emissions free. Indeed, sometimes you have to open the front door and waft it to get the smoke out of the cabin!

Electric Vehicles Conversions-Videos TR6

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

This is the best thread to accumulate this sort of stuff.....nice and probably expensive conversion of a TR6

Details from the description on youtube
Hello and welcome to electric car conversion specialist Dennis Murschel, from Renningen/Germany.
Are you interested in what happened with a Triumph TR6, which previously had this sound ... and now has this lovely sound? At the beginning you neet to get used to this new sound. But very soon it becomes one with the rapid acceleration and the great new feeling, driving a fully electric car. "It was a great and challenging project to rebuild this beautiful sports car into a pure electric car." are Dennis Murschel and Dennis Hummel saying.
Here are some specifications of the e-car Triumph TR6:
 The range of the Triumph TR6 after electric conversion is under ideal conditions approximately 220km in city driving and about 150 overland.
 75 kW peak power, 190 Nm of torque The top speed is throttled at 160 km / h.
 The batteries are lithium cells, individually monitored with 18 kW / h and 110 V
 The charging time is approximately 8 hours on a 220V socket from 0 to the full charge.
 The batteries are monitored via a vattery mangment system.
 The old fuel gauge now shows the battery level. The entire system with its values can be monitored on a smartphone app.
 The display on the dashboard for the display with battery status and current consumption has been individually designed and adapted.
 The complete wiring was redone and tailored to the electric drive.
 In addition, all chassis and suspension parts were renewed.
 the vehicle is manually switched with a series transmission with clutch.
 When using the brakes energy is recovered and loaded into the batteries.
