Re-map

Post by daviemck2006 »

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a decent custom re-map on my pug 407 2.7hdi in Scotland or the northern bit of England? The place that tried couldnt do it. I thought i was getting a custom remap, but what in fact they tried to do was a generic map from a compant called Quantam remaps. This was to be done via the internet plugged into the obd port. The storeman told me that i was better off that it did not work and i was not charged as the maps are crap and i could get so much better. So im looking for a personal recommendation really. The only thing i dont like about the 407 is turbo lag from rest. Its very sluggish off the line, which makes it frustrating pulling out into traffic from rest.

Talk to HDi-tuning.co.uk in Bristol. They did mine. You'll probably need to remove your ECU and send it. They did the Berlingo and it's bloody great.

Both HDI-tuning and superchips have localish agents to me and cant do it. The best that looks possible seems to be a piggy back chip. Theres a vast amount of themranging from about 40 quid to 400. The funny thing is some of the cheaper ones promise better results than the more expensive ones. It looks like a blooming minefield

It is a minefield, and if anything the advertising has got more bizarre and less detailed. Huge numbers of outfits offering boxes (piggy-back and plug-in) now, rather than actual re-chipping. If some of the older-established and experienced companies in the field are not offering kits for particular cars, there may be a good reason for that. The cowboys will offer anything that sells, of course.

I know Trainman has had his c6 done, he has the same engine and gearbox as I have and he is really happy with it, so a first email is away to where he got it done. Even if its just advice i get it may help me.

I 'nearly' had one done by Angel Tuning a few years back. They do list your car Davie - here is the link:
http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/product/pe ... el-205bhp/
The Ops Manager, Steve Barby answered all my questions concerning the remap promptly and even offered me a free hire car. (I was on a training course for the day in the area). They don't quote figures from a one off dyno run - but use an average. They only reason I didn't go ahead at the time, was when I clarified the position with regard to the DMF and clutch. As the power and torque is increased, he suggested I get those sorted first (I was getting the odd slip every now and then), so I couldn't get it done at the time and it was a fair way to travel for me. If I was going to consider getting it done, I would probably go here as I did a fair bit of research at the time. Having already tried a £400 plug in chip tuning kit previously from another well known company - without any noticeable difference, I returned that for a full refund and decided if I was ever going to get a remap it would be with Angel Tuning. They do have a franchise operation in place now - but personally, I would only go directly to their Banbury site if considering having it done. They did offer a discount for forces / ex forces personnel at the time too, as I think there are a couple of ex army guys who own it IIRC.

Your Standard Power: 205 BHP, Remapped Power Gain: +40 BHP, remapped Torque Gain: +65 Lb/ft.

Hope this helps.

I have just left sn enquiry at angel tuning. I expect it will be tomorrow now before i get a response. I dont mind travelling to get it done, but if they are national concerns i would expect them to have a branch in Aberdeen. Im really not keen on the piggy back solution.

In the early days of Deisel tuning Van Aaken were one of the leaders in the game, Derv Doctor close behind, at the time they did a 'live map' on the car rather than off the shelf unit, passenger with laptop plugged in whilst being driven about to tweak the map to each car, But, that was late 90's early 00's, a lot of people now offer mapping, the genuine mappers are fantastic, those who plug in a generic performance map for that model are effectively just upgrading the software - overclocking in computer terms,
I have tried to convince a buddy of mine not to get his 1.3 ford done but he wants to fit an induction kit and get the best of the engine! He has been told he'd be lucky to get book figures and nothing close to the 20% suggesfed on the box! ;-)

Superchips did our XM 2.5 in about 2001. Brilliant job: two replacement ECU chips. Re-write was for Pug605/XM2.5 THY/DK5, but they no longer have this available. To be accurate, no-one there can remember where the code was archived! All a bit historic now. They did offer to see whether anyone knew where it might have gone...

Did it work? Rather - one of our in-gear acceleration times dropped from 18s to 11s, turbo take up was improved, as was mpg by about 2. Been on the car ever since, and no problems 100k miles later, or with any emissions testing. Coupled with today's improved diesel fuel, and a dash of cetane improver, the drive and performance is in a different class.

I'm going to contact Angel as well, JOOI, to see whether they have anything available.
