I met Daffodil today and she really is a complete gem and a little cracker... Not a spot of rust on her and she looks a lot, lot younger than she is...
She runs very sweetly and a good inspection reveals no obvious faults at all...
She is a bit grubby but I know in Alasdair's skilled hands she'll clean up a treat... She could be brought to show condition very easily
And.... Not only that, she has the only TU engine I have ever seen not to have an oil leak in the usual place - from the front LH corner of the cylinder head... She's bone dry there...

I see no MOT difficulties at all... Even the tyres are excellent - spare and all!
Your Daffodil reminded me of this, I bought it in Westbury Wilts Car Auction, normally all the deco would have been pressure washed off but on this I sold it with the advert headed 'Flower Power'
It came from the BNES council gardens dept.

Back in the 80s, I had a daily commute from Peterborough to Huntingdon, and when my XJ-S broke down (yes the same one I still own), a friend lent me a Daf 33 (a later incarnation of the Daffodil), which was a bit scary to drive down the A1M at rush hour. It was the most underpowered car I have ever driven, and the CVT was set up so that when the throttle was released it lowered the transmission ratio to give engine braking. The effect was that at speed, the only effect of moving the accelerator pedal was to change the engine note, the harder you pressed on the pedal, the slower the engine went.
My friend told me that he had only bought the Daf because it was made by Volvo, and thus a quality vehicle. I never had the heart to tell him that Volvo only took over Daf a year after his car was built. Axing the 33 was about the first thing Volvo did after taking over.

And yet they sold in their thousands, the 600, 750 and 33 sold over 300,000 cars and the later 44, 55 and 66 each sold around 160,000 Volvo took the 44 changed the transmission and tuned the Renault engine up by a couple of bhp.
The 750 was produced specially for caravan owners to tug their vans up the Alps.

It was one of the few cars that a 2CV could reliably outpace in a traffic light drag race.
I guess back in the 60's and 70's each nation had their own loyalties and brands, I remember travelling in France and the cars were quite different - Renault, Panhards, Citroens, Simcas instead of Austin 1100s, Triumphs & Fords here. Germany it was VAG, Opel and Taurus/Ford, Italy Fiats and exotica. Now its ubiquitous VAG/PSA and few other odd bits wherever you look - you wake up in a Novotel, go down for the universal Novotel breakfast and look out to the universal Novotel car park full of universal Novotel-dwellers cars, you could be anywhere in Europe.
So back then, if you lived in the Netherlands and wanted to buy local and loyal, it was a DAF. Thinking about names, when they invented "the Transmission" they could have called cars with it fitted the DAF-T. Wonder why not?

And never forget the early Volvo 340, the 343, had the variomatic transmission too - coupled to the Renault engine...
I had one but with a manual transaxle - until the propshaft failed in an epic way...
Bloody good cars and seriously under-rated... Mine happily tugged a caravan to Disneyland Paris and back and did me for 20K of reliable comfly and warm miles when I was absolutely poverty-stricken...
The 340 was designed by Daf and was on the drawing board as the P900 (IIRC) when Volvo took over. A bit like how the Pug 205 was on the Simca drawing board when PSA took them over...
So, the Volvo 3 series were in reality a Daf and the Pug 205 was in fact a Simca... Who'd have ever thought it? The X series 'suitcase' engine fitted to early 205s was a Simca engine and the only other engine apart from the BMC A and B series to have the gearbox in the sump and sharing the same oil... Or the same bathwater as they used to say in the old days
