Not far enough though Davie... Last time I travelled by air you'd need to have been a legless, anorexic dwarf to have got sufficient space and comfort...daviemck2006 wrote:At least with you being 1/2 my size you may at least have been able to move slightly!
Our local trains are not a lot better....
It's OK if all three passengers are like me but if I get between two slightly chunky people I suddenly understand what it's like to be a ham sandwich

Well, Ryanair is on course to be offering Trans Atlantic flights for as low as £10 each way. I didn't know that sardine tins were available with wings!

We've been to America twice but I couldn't stand that flight now. We're off to Majorca in a weeks time but we always pay a bit extra for more leg room.

One day a large school of sardines is swimming along when a submarine goes past. "What was that, Mummy?" asks a young sardine. "That was a tin of humans" Mummy replies.

Re: RE: Re: Davie's french attraction.
Yes, the two trains i was on that day werent better. The seats were hard solid plastic with no shape at all and about 1/2 inch of padding on them. The best public transport i have been on recently are actually the local buses here. They are not buses, but coaches they use, mainly relatively recent plaxton coaches that are actually comfortable to sit in although the legroom is limited. Not so limited as easy jets A 319 though.CitroJim wrote:Not far enough though Davie... Imagine my 18 hour trek to Colombia... 7.5 hours to JFK (Delta 767), 5 hours wait, then 5 hours down to Bogota (Delta 737 in vile weather).CitroJim wrote:

How do I cope? Drugs and alcohol.
Many years ago -My ex-father in-law was a doctor. Gave me some pills. Said "take one of these when you're airside, wash it down with a glass of red wine".
I opened my book once seated on the plane at Heathrow, don't remember taking off, and woke up when my ears started to pop 13 hours later descending into Sao Paulo, book in hand, drooling. Best. Flight. Ever.

Trouble is, what your Ex-FIL gave you Mickey, I fear if I had that I'd never wake up again!

Do what I do, take Half, then the other half when you wake up for a mid-flight pee, when the drug free lot are snoozing badly and not stuffing wine/crap food down themselves.

It's would still kill me Alasdair - only more slowly and with greater agony!
Why aeroplane passengers need feeding is beyond me.. You're sitting inert and using no energy... No fuel required... Now if each passenger had a set of pedals and were assisting with the forward motion of the thing then feeding would be in order...

I am the same as you now Jim. Having family abroad, I would only fly now if in any emergency. France and NZ are the family homes. Wife comes back this week from 4 weeks in New Zealand.

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Planes are a form of public transport, so - they're not, by definition, comfortable; nor supposed to be, are they?
I try to visit the USA twice a year, the answer is - a book! Because the problem is - boredom (& that's where the food comes in - assuming, of course, the flight's more than, say, 4 hours).
As a commuter, I am sick of people banging on about overcrowding on trains: they're packed with people who forced themselves on, when it was patently obvious there was no room. Why do they chose to travel like this? Last Friday however was different altogether: got to Paddington with minutes to spare, had a seat reservation but had to board right at the back, started to walk through the train, got one coach away from my seat (oh, the irony!) & could make no further progress - finally got a seat at Taunton! All the way I had to keep moving because stupid &/or selfish people insisted in walking up & down the train, even though it was so difficult I wouldn't even have thought about it. Oh, & to cap it all missed the chance to bid on Xantia as, obviously, not in a position to fire-up the lap-top - as I would've been if I'd got to my seat.
