I started the car again and this time it showed the battery was flat. It gave me the high temp routine again.
I drove it and then it normalised. After about 5 mins it started throwing tantrums again. Jiggling the connections this time did nothing at all. I have replaced the connecting terminals to your pic above before as the original ones broke off

Seems a bit of an OTT reaction to a fault on a 14 year old car, but all the best with its replacement!

Yes, I'm afraid that if the OP thinks that other marques are more reliable at 14 years on then he's likely to be disappointed. I wonder what he bought - or perhaps intends to buy.

Aren't they for dealing with minor leakages?

Probably something with four letters and begins with 'F' (the car that is  )

Nuances or Nuisances? Suppose it depends upon how much remains in one's bulk pack of Tenacity... which indeed could be mistaken for a type of absorbent pad to soak up oil from one's mini metro (city)

In other news, 14 year old car sold because of electrical fault shocker...
Sounds like someone either got a bargain with just a bad earth to fix (or properly cleaning the wires before refitting the terminals, maybe even just a BSI reset) OR perhaps it was chopped in after a good charge while it was behaving itself still... In which case poor dealer lol
