Good tip! Thanks for that :)

I also have to make room for my favourite bike tool; a CO2 inflater. If you don't yet have one then get one, they really are magic :D

Yes, walking any distance at all wearing cycling shoes and SPD-SL cleats is no fun at all and ruins the cleats too  A new set costs somewhere north of 12 quid...

Some kind chap gave me a set of new cleats recently. I'm not sure where they came from but they're a lot better than the ones that came with the shimano shoes I have!

I do indeed have a CO2 inflator. Wouldn't be without one.

Just as some kind chap provided me with what has turned out to be a very useful and functional mountain bike.. Takes me all over MK and to parkrun every Saturday... I treasure that bike :D

I think those cleats came with the last set of SPD pedals I bought... Pukka Shimano ones. I've heard reports that cheap eBay clones of Shimano cleats last no time at all... At a tenth of the cost of the genuine article it's hardly surprising really...

The cleats I had on them came with a set of Shimano pedals I bought new. They nevet seemed quite "right". Always tight in the pedals and not much float on them. The new ones are perfect, though it has to be said my right foot now rests at a different angle on the pedal to what it did previous to my accident!

Not automotive at all but today I completed a 10K race in the MK Festival of Running :D

I'm even more addicted to running after that. Gutted though for finishing just tens of seconds over the hour... Had it not been for having to negotiate a flooded underpass under a good 9 inches of water and then running 80% of the race in wet shoes and socks I think I may have cracked the magic 60 mins...

It was a very surreal experience to run along closed roads and what for the most part are very busy dual carriageways...

The race organisers had a real 'treat' in store for us right at the end of the race - a really steep hill up to the highest point in Milton Keynes  I love running up hills - being very light I'm like a mountain goat - but many hated it... One runner behind me complained 'They must be f'ing joking...'

And I did all that for a bottle of free water and a banana at the finish... Plus a medal ;)

Really looking forward to the MK Half Marathon now :) I do love running...

You have one major advantage going up steep hills Jim. You only have about 8 stone to get up it whereas I would have 17 lol

Yes, it's where I pass most fellow runners.... I'm the same on my bike... I'm a climber in both disciplines...

Crazy I know but I actively look forward to ascending hills...

The most I've done with cars this week is give Gabriel her weekly check-over. As usual all was fine :)

The reason for so little automotive work is I was busy practising hard for this:
Jim's 3rd Kyu Grading Certificate
Jim's 3rd Kyu Grading Certificate
A lot of adrenaline was produced to get that, followed by a lot of endorphin!

This now entitles me to wear a brown belt - not far from black now ;)

I did drive my Activa to the grading and back and that was a pleasure...

It's been a tremendously good day... I scored a new PB of 26'33" in parkrun this morning and now this :)

I've also done a lot of garden sorting ready for growing some veg... Even got the lawn mown...

So...

I can now finally get stuck into the 207... Watch this space ;)

Well done Citro Ninja Jim.

I've always carried my spare tube wedged between the saddle rails on road bikes.

Probably telling you old hat but always make sure you have a good feel inside the tyre where the hole was, nothing worse than pumping up the tube only for it instantly to go down because the thorn / nail is still in the tyre.

I always loved a good climb too but I need a lot of practise before that comes back, still a bit of a way to go before buying a new bike for me.

Just realised my Winter belly has peaked, I'm getting good muscle definition from work but I need to stop with the sugar and get a little bit more cardiovascular exercise in.

Lots Mike! I may be nearing the end of the student grades now but to progress to Dan grades (black belt) is a real lot of work and at least five years away... It's like starting again.

To put it into car terms... When you start you know roughly what a gearbox is. At my level now I understand how a gearbox works and could swap a duff one for a good one... At black belt level you can also rebuild the duff one... The further up the Dan grades you go the more you can do so at the top level you could overhaul a 4HP20...

I learned that the hard way when I was a kid James :) I've been fixing punctures since I was riding tricycles! One of the very first cycling maintenance skills I was taught when my age was still very much in single figures!

On my daily rider I'm in the habit of carrying a spare tube now and a CO2 inflater (wonderful devices they are!) and with QD wheels and being able to slip the tyres on and off without tools makes it all very easy to fix a puncture now...

On my best bike with tubeless tyres (and my mountain bike) punctures should never be a problem as the tyres are filled with latex sealant and any punctures occurring should instantly seal. I still carry a tube and CO2 inflater with that bike just in case though...

On my best bike, getting the tubeless tyres off the carbon rims is a bit more difficult and needs special carbon-compatible levers to avoid damage to the rim... Also, special (premium priced) brake shoes are needed too...

Had a lovely day down in Somerset yesterday :D Gabriel purred all the way down and back and not only that, survived a spell in the car park whilst I took part in the Southwick parkrun as a tourist... On previous occasions somthinmg has always happened to Gabriel when she's been parked there...

I scored a new parkrun PB of 24'48" too :D

That done, I proceeded to Alasdair's place where a most pleasant day was spent :D

I now have all the bits I need to fix, once and for all one trusts, Gabriel's unreliable cooling fans :D Thanks Alasdair! and thanks for the eggs too, two of which are now in a quiche!

proper very free-range eggs :D
