Evening all, pondering a few things whilst tinkering on the car of late, mostly the extent to which the intake feed pipe expands when the turbo spools up on the xantia td, got me thinking about swapping the rubber pipe with a Silicone one to try and prevent so much expansion, which then got me to thinking about replacing all the intake hoses with the same, theoretically if my thinking is on the right track, the less expansion of the hose the flow into the turbo should improve and any losses of boost pressure due to age of the current hose would be diminished, Now I feel I should give an insight to my thinking on this, in the cycle world of tubeless tyres, some are a swine to 'seat' properly, due to not everyone having a compressor at home, the invention of the 'diy compressor' came about, 2l pop bottle, 2valves, one with its core, one without and a length of pipe, the valves are fitted to the bottle lid, pipe to the Coreless Valve and the hose kinked, inflate the bottle to 80psi, other end of the pipe on the tyre Valve and unkink the pipe, Boof! 80psi shot of air in to seat the tyre, okay, so sometimes you need a bit more pressure in it so you wrap the pop bottle with duck tape, having done this, I can testify that 120psi is possible in the same bottle, Thus, my thinking on upgrading the hoses (or duck taping the current hoses! ),
Is my pondering along the right lines or am I off on a tangent of nonsense! The latter is quite possible!
Any thoughts?

Just that the volume of air passing through the turbo hoses is very large, and the increase in size of the hoses under pressure is very small, so - assuming they're not actually leaking - the 'ballooning' effect of the hoses is negligible. It certainly won't affect smoothness of air flow.
You may find that silicone hoses will balloon too.

Note that silicone hoses subject to oil contamination will tend to weep oil through them. I found that out when I swapped all the breather hoses on my first Saab for silicone ones. The PCV hose rapidly turned from blue to brown and sort of "sweating" engine oil.

Then you should of used the Fluoro-silicone types, "ordinary" silicon is not suitable when oil mist is present in such areas as turbo pipe etc.

Thanks for that, useful to know for future. No idea specifically what type they were - the only ones my then local motor factors had in stock was the basic answer.

As they did what you saw then they WILL be "standard" ones. You also need/should the Fluoro-silicone types if you plan on using OAT Anti Freeze in the cooling system.
The Fluoro-silicone types are about x2 the cost, however you can get ones with an inner layer with standard on the outside.
