Wind Turbine - Off topic and off Grid

Post by xsaras4ever »

Hello again to you all.

Not car related but we respect the opinions here.

Before the question - imagine you find that Citroen that you really want!!!!! It doesn't make any sense to buy it , its too expensive to repair and you really don't need it as you already have enough cars - but logic doesn't matter, you want it.

For us its like that with a wind turbine.

So, we are thinking of starting with a Hornet 1000w.
Has anybody else on here gone the wind turbine quest or know someone who has ? Any helpful advice (apart from "don't bother) will be very appreciated.

Consult the bl******dy neighbours first even the ones in the next street, whenever anyone tries to do this they all seem to pop out of the wilderness and grumble about their ' right's. ' being disturbed.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Just offer then some free electricity... That'll shut 'em up!

I'm following this with interest...

All you need now is to get an electric car and you potentially have some free charging... Win, win, win :)

Kidnap a cyclist and cable tie him to a bike/generator in the basement with a VR headset strapped to his head and tell him to do a PB twice every day !

Hello again, we live in rural France where you can put up a pylon to just short of 12metres without any planning,

We are in a small village and own most of the ruins - but that's another story.........

You know I'm only good for about 200 watts don't you ;)

That's what my bike power meter tells me...

I have had a wind turbine for the last 5 or 6 years, I say 'had' as the head bearing failed and the whole lot fell down, as some of my batteries were failing I decided not to repair it and sold it on ebay.

Before you buy one consider your average wind speed because unless its fairly strong don't consider anything less than 2m diameter blades or it won't work half the time.

The one I bought was only 200w but with 2M blades it would give some sort of output in any wind. It was only used as a standby supply but would do that very effectively when the batteries were good, it was a 24V system with a 1kw inverter which was a converted UPS. also get decent batteries if you want them to last, traction batteries are best.
