lacquer coming off newish wheels.

Unread post by waynedance »

Got the wheels last May and not happy this is happening. Hard to see in pics need to zoom in looks worse in the flesh. Pic 2 shows shows quite a bit missing. Only use the best cleaners and soft brush.

Looked on the shops website and it says 6 months warranty on polished alloys?

Going to call them tomorrow see what they say, surely they should sort something out? Not happy with the wheels now already looking at alternatives.

Don't know what to say really - I mean they are going to chip with grit and stones on the road pebble-dashing them daily. As they are black it is going to show up every single scratch - I suspect if we all had a look at our alloys close up they would be the same, just that it wouldn't show up as much being silver. I'm betting they only guarantee the work against the finish for 6 months - but not against 'wear and tear' damage from road debris.

If you are going to change them I would stick to silver in future.

If there's any members here with Citroen 19" Adriatic black alloys (I know these were optional on a C5 X7), it would be interesting to see if these have faired any better than yours.

Yeah thinking silver as well, the black are a nightmare to clean and as said show up all the slightest marks.

Not sure chips from road stones has done this to them, the peeling is on the spokes where black meets silver.

So if the shop says they can't help then leave it at that and put it down to experience?

Some alternatives.....get some new and Ebay these ones

What about some genuine Citroen ones? There's a few sets here with tyres?

Prefer aftermarket, not many 4 studs I like for the Mk1. Got decent Michelin Cross Climates to swap over to new wheels

Like the silvers ones above as they should be easy to clean.

I have to say that looks like impact damage to me. I cannot see them doing anything if they do not wish to as it is not (by the look of it) a failure of the gloss coat.

Well looks like there just rubbish wheels then. Bought alloys before for other cars and this never happened one set silver and another high gloss silver.

Found these which look ok and only £69.36 each for my size.

if is on the edges as the second picture, you could look at a smart repair type of outfit to repair the finish??

New wheels fitted. So much better for cleaning and these are same spec as the factory wheels offset and 6.5j so do not stick out like the ones that i just removed which were 7j and et13.

Not so easy to kurb either as the tyre is much wider than the wheel. The black polished ones looked nice but they were a pain to clean with my poorly hands and looked dirty really quickly and with them sticking out more got the sides of the car dirty quicker.
