CX cropping up in unusual places...

Unread post by wurlycorner »

In the middle of a story on the BBC news site, about immigrant schooling in the 70s!

The picture has got me curious...
Anyone know that CX (DNW 202T)?
According to the DVLA it hasn't been recorded as scrapped (it does come up in the tax/mot check database) but not taxed since May 1986.
Or know the location (given the sign, I'm assuming it's a Citroen dealer???)

Sadly it's highly likely to be long gone even though it still shows on the database... I think they only started wiping the details off the database on scrapping when "continuous registration" came in, along with CoD's... Almost all my parent's old cars still show up despite not being on the road for more than a couple of years after they sold them :( (Autism, nature's way of making sure I never forget a plate!!!) and they were nothing special, 2 Metros (B795 XHJ/XBF 579X), Mk1 Sierra (C397 WRE) Pug 309 1.6 GR, carb. & manual choke! (E555 AFM) Skoda Felicia (R506 CTU) and Octavia (Y332RTU) amongst others...

I can recall most of my old car numberplates too!

With a plate like that it should have had Bosch LU2 Jetronic injection as that used an AFM to sense airflow!

Wonder how many now remember what a choke is.. Last car I had with a manual choke was a K plate Metro...

I take it that the electronics used a 555 timer chip?

Very good James :D  There might well be one in inside the flasher unit... Or the intermittent wipers if it has them...

To use a choke you wold have to be driving a petrol engine car...

The only number plate I can remember is my dad's Moggie - 4567UP.

Can't recall any of my own - even the current one :(

B207LAP - my mum`s old ford escort 1.3 L

and

E551CYJ - the replacement escort 1.4 LX

sadly I cant remember the replacement - it was a H reg 1.4 LX as well , that had the recall for replacement anti roll bars as on the 1.4 on the `new shape` they were woeful. Until my dad wrecked it

Did that Mk5 also have the woeful brakes Harlequin? Our cabbie has the ridiculous 2-channel ABS and the braking is marginal (read-: lethal when you've just jumped in it after a week of using either a 206 or 406!!!)...
