GC4P - after market sat nav
Any (sensible) suggestions as to the best place to locate the suction pad (note careful choice of words), based on experience, please?

Re: GC4P - after market sat nav
I mount my Sat Nav on my windscreen left of centre, at shoulder height. That way it is out of my normal eye line (but not too far to look), and low enough that the power cable does not get stretched too hard.

Trouble with the windscreen on the C4 Pic is that it is about half a light year in front of the dash! My parents had theirs in a mount that clipped into the CD slot in the radio, they've got a different mount now, my 8 year old was trying to describe it (!) sounds like some sort of high friction mat!

Drat, I forgot that. I drive a C5 (personal car)) and a Vauxhall Combo (company van), and I can always just reach the Sat Nav without leaning much.

Re: GC4P - after market sat nav
Ah! Forgotten that. Years ago my thoughtful daughter gave me a Sat Mat, a round sandbag with a rubber underside and a shiney plastic disc in the middle; the sat nav sucker goes onto the disc and you dump the whole shebang on the fascia. Might be languishing under a front seat of the Xantia. Works surprisingly well and it's much easier to hide the whole thing under a front seat if you stop somewhere like a motorway services - no give-away rings on the screen if you want to hide the When I find it, I'll try to remember to post a photo to illustrate my poor description.RichardW wrote:Trouble with the windscreen on the C4 Pic is that it is about half a light year in front of the dash! I had wondered about mounting the sat nav up high above sight-line - mine has a long lead. Pity the radio cover hinges down - never listen to the radio when I'm using satnav and it's the ideal place. Hmm - have to have a ponder.

You might want to look at the dash and pillar mounts at http://www.dsldevelopments.com

Re: GC4P - after market sat nav
The 'Sat-Mat' that I mentioned in a previous post is actually called a Nav-Mat. Can thoroughly recommend, makes life very easy when there's a need to keep hiding the SatNav when the vehicle is parked - just pick the whole setup off the dash and hide it in the boot or under/behind a seat. A number of different models available from the UK importers website and from various retailers. Mine is now called a Nav-Mat DIP, it doesn't have the sticky base of some newer models, just relies on weight and rubbery bottom to stay in the place - I've never had it slide, not even on dash slick with an excess of silicon spray.
