What does these features actually do?

Unread post by Peugeot_Russ »

Greetings. I would like to know how the following features in a 407 actually work .

Automatic control for air conditioner- Auto feature - how does this work?
If i set it on auto, will it force intake of outside air? or use the cabin air recirculation? will it adjust fan speed and interior temperature according to data from interior and exterior sensors?
i need clarification on it

and ....

Interior cabin temperature sensor and humidity sensor- what exactly does this do?

thanks.

The Auto setting handles everything to ensure the cabin is maintained at the temperature you set. Auto handles the speed of the fan, the mix of cool and hot air to achieve this, and the distribution of the air throughout the vehicle.

The recycled option is a manual setting to close off the outside air in case of bad smells or in traffic. The sensors in the car measure the air quality and humidity, allowing adjustments automatically to maintain optimum comfort.

On the Citroen C5 X7, the system will shut off outside air when it detects pollutants (such as in stationary traffic where there are higher levels of exhaust fumes for example) and will reset back to fresh outside air when air quality returns to acceptable levels. It also activates recycled air when reverse gear is selected (you can hear the motors change the flaps) to prevent your own exhaust fumes from being drawn into the cabin when reversing.

The Auto setting is recommended to be used all the time to maintain optimum comfort and to ensure there is no misting or Windows etc. I hope this gives you a better understanding of the system.

Additionally to the above scenarios, in auto mode, the system will switch to full (or perhaps partial ?) recirculation when in full cooling mode (e.g. when the car is first started after sitting in the sun on a hot day). This allows the system to run the evaporator at a lower temperature than normal without risk of icing of the evaporator.

I believe (having read it somewhere on this forum, I think) that when you put the car into reverse the Auto function will switch to recycle, so as not to pull in the exhaust fumes.

the only reason i never use the auto setting is that, I do not want the system taking in outside air even if the sensors detect its clean- my weather is a dusty, dry and hot one with random fires and ash all over the place. I'd like to spare my air condition filter and the intake chambers the trouble.

That's what your cabin pollen filter is for. It traps all the dust and particles and is charcoal activated to combat some of the smells. It's not a good idea to breath in recycled air for too long for obvious reasons (carbon dioxide). In your climate, it would be wise to just replace the air and pollen filters more regularly.
