Activa, non rusty wreck, don't think so....show me one or a non wreck v6 in any advert ?
With the welding done Dave has shoved his up I would think as well.....but they really are not coming to market now....
I retract the V6 that will teach me

Activas are now getting very rare indeed, even rough ones...mickeymoon wrote:Really? There's no Xantia apart from yours, Jim's and David H's that anyone in their right mind would pay over a grand for. Not one. I might stretch to a grand for DavieMck one too.
I think all the rough old dogs are now baked bean cans and only the decent ones are now left...

Re: Most Interesting Car For Under A Grand?
I think it would take more than a grand to persuade me to part with mine just now. And if I did part with it I think it would be replaced with a c5 v6 or 2.2 hdi twin turbo 173 if I'm staying French or I have a hankering for a BMW 530 or 535D toured if not. Or maybe a Vauxhall Royale 3.0 coupe or it's opel monza sister.

Re: Most Interesting Car For Under A Grand?
Oh...Thought of another one!
Proper old school Fiat Panda 1000.
Looks like an oversized shopping trolley, is about as well trimmed as one, but once you start driving one it all somehow makes sense and comes alive and suddenly becomes so much more than the sum of its parts...And the little FIRE power unit that likes to rev more than many bikes I've seen is an absolute blast to play with.
Really miss the L plate one we had back around 2003.

Re: Most Interesting Car For Under A Grand?
The 4x4 panda was from memory a remarkably capable off roader too??
A quick nose through the wonders of ebay and I should scrub the 407 coupe of the list, they are a bit pricey still!

Re: Most Interesting Car For Under A Grand?
4wd Panda is astonishingly capable off road so long as you have a bit of common sense, light weight and being tiny enough to avoid a lot of obstacles are its real key advantages. Just stay aware that it doesn't have massive ground clearance (still more than many modern serious off roaders!), and you'll be fine.
Even the normal 2wd car is near unstoppable in the snow I found, it and my Niva were the only two vehicles that never failed to get up our drive in the snow.
It really surprised me the first time I took ours out for a "spirited" drive how quick you could really hussle along a twisty road in it, just keep the revs up and realise that the near 2CV like levels of body roll were normal, and just enjoy yourself. Exhaust used to howl in a most satisfying manner on ours above about 3.5K rpm as seems to be common to many Fiats, which especially as a 17 year old egged me on even further.
Darn it...Really missing that car now. Also want to see what my other half would make of one... He's hooked on the Riva - if slightly terrified of it - so I think would understand its charms!
Also forgotten originally - Put 406 Coupe goes without saying... And actually still obtainable within budget just about.
Finally for now, 2CV. Not sure if in budget or not, because the prices I see online look like someone loaded a bunch of numbers into a Blunderbuss and shot them at a blank spreadsheet... They're all over the shop. I'd love one - even if only briefly, because they are just so odd...That and again I want to take the Americans in the family out in one and watch their brains melt as they try to make sense of what's going on around them. Sound pretty epic as well from what I remember...

Re: Most Interesting Car For Under A Grand?
I have to agree on the snow/small car thing, the same is true with the tint Kia , the last serious snow we had here, the Kia was getting up our hill faster than the local 4x4's like a little terrier just skipping about on top of the snow and ice with not a care in the world
Americans ??
But only one average Yank would fit inside a 2cv

My daughter, in Baltimore, ran one of these for several years, it was pretty fault free and would plough through deep snow where all the yank 4x4s failed.

Choice of 58 currently on gumtree before you go over £1,000, so not a rarity, but interesting for the money

Bit late to this party but (as various other posts suggest) been a bit preoccupied of late.
I would've thought either of my Cadillacs qualified, by almost any definition. (too bad I'm so unenamoured with the at the moment)

The Turbo S version with 230bhp is essentially an Impreza with a SUV body on top. They share nearly all the mechanicals with the Impreza.Gibbo2286 wrote:My daughter, in Baltimore, ran one of these for several years, it was pretty fault free and would plough through deep snow where all the yank 4x4s failed.
They're a great car.
