The house I live in has a small garden so currently have an old LDV van which is looking tired parked in the car park next to house which is privately owned by myself and my neighbours.
I am thinking I getting a new 20x8ft storage container possibly in green and placing in the car park in the bottom right corner against the wall. Do you think this is a good or bad idea? The wall is 31ft long to give an idea of how much space it will take up.
Failing the storage container Idea I would get an old 7.5t box lorry and use that but a container would be better and neater.

I'm presuming it's to store a car. They're good as long as you can ensure the car is bone dry before it goes in, as they're usually pretty air tight! If you can do that, they're a great place to store a car.
I couldn't see that being a problem if your neighbours are agreeable. I would prefer to see a container rather than an old Large Daft Van if I were your neighbour.

Planning permission will almost certainly be required and the council planning officer will make your life a misery if you don't apply.
I used the body off a 7.5 tonne fridge truck as a shop adjacent to my petrol forecourt but it was out of sight and of course it was already business premises so no problem.
If you need storage space I'd go for a complete truck, keep it tidy, mobile and sorned and provided your neighbours don't complain you should get away with it, that is if it's your own land.

No planning permission required for a container as they are considered as temporary or as outbuildings which do not require planning permission. As you are in a residential area it would be wise to consult all neighbours as if they complain you can be ordered to remove it. It is also wise to check with your local planning office, as discreetly as possible, if they have any particular rules about containers. If it's not visible from the road you shouldn't get much trouble, I have 4 here within 50ft of my caravan and there is no planning permission.
To store stuff for any period of time I would recommend having insulating foam applied to the roof as a minimum and preferably the walls. This will keep the temperature bearable when you need to go in and more importantly reduce condensation to virtually none.
If it's a real PITA theres always the option of hiring an excavator and sinking it into the floor, this provided good insulation and still allows you to use the land it would have been sat on.
Personally I'd go for the lorry because of the price of shipping containers. You get far more for your money with an old lorry and theres no bureaucracy at all, that I'm aware of, regarding putting it on your land.
Yeah it seems an old 7.5t or class 2 lorry would be the easier option as no one could force it's removal.
New container is approx £1800 with delivery, a decent looking truck is anything from £1500. The red one in the pic was £2750 and the other is bid upto £750 so far with a few days to go.

It may be worth a look at the army surplus suppliers, they have some interesting stuff. Last time I looked they were selling off a load of Mercedes Vario Ambulances with almost 0 mileage that had been sat in an RAF lockup for 20+years for not much money. No idea what they have at the minute but there are some brilliant vehicles that crop up and sometimes the prices are good.
It seems my council would want planing permission for a container so looks like a Luton or 7.5t truck....

Money grabbing beurocrats, it isn't even a structure just a big box. I suppose they need planning permission if you want to mow the lawn in your borough.
