CREAM, by Prince
Turn up the volume for this, it is so polished and so very well produced

Might as well have Dan Fogleberg's "Same old lang syne" on the jukebox.

Similar theme as in Steely Dan's "What a shame about me", and the Human League's "Louise" both top quality tracks in my opinion, but not for new year selections night :-D

People Get Ready for 2017

I so want to include some Samantha Fish, just because she is so damned good but nothing suitable springs to mind.

Don't be shy Steve, I'm not going to complain to the moderators its off-topic! Just invent a dubious tenuous link!

Prince and Joss Stone loaded up!

OK, as 2016 has been such an unmitigated disaster, we need some magic to recompense.

If Sam isn't magic, I don't know what is.

I love the comment (paraphrased) that "I thought the other guitarist was doing the heavy lifting then realised he is the bass player" :)

What is the link between Samantha Fish and La Maladrerie Saint-Lazare in Beauvais, (looks very nice I have to say) the first full day of astronomical spring in 2017, and 21.80 euros:?:

I bet there's someone apart from me who will be able to come up with the answer.

She has played there on a European tour.

I heard (too late) that she and Sadie Johnson were in London a couple of weeks ago.

My New Year Selection...

A bit of classic Barclay James Harvest - this is a good, easy introduction...

I have had a word with the PE Landlord Jim, and he confirms that the Wurlitzer won't take long players, but he has plugged in the Dynatron Cavalcade especially for you in the snug. You will see there are three knobs to adjust the listening experience, so fairly straightforward, but you will have to wait until Jimi Hendrix has finished before you slap on BJH :-D

Wow :D That Dynatron is a bit special Neil! A bass and treble control as well as an amp with a pair of EL84s in push-pull makes for a fine sound...

A great choice! Perfect for BJH!

...Have to admit Jim, its just on loan for the festive season, so make the most of it. Should you ever find yourself wandering down Dean Street iin Newcastle to the Quayside, on your right hand side you may see the sign for the Crown Posada an unusually named Pub, and what I would describe as a Newcastle Institution.

That's where you will find the Dynatron Cavalcade being put to use, and if you happened to be clutching your BJH vinyl at the time, just say you are a regular at the Pickled Egg, and I am sure you will get the usual Geordie welcome, and they will put on the Dynatron and provide you with a skinny latte.

The good old Crown Posada has moved with the times now. I couldn't have guaranteed your safety if you had ordered a skinny latte there in the 1970's :-D

...maybe a couple of small refurbishments at the PE are in order for the New Year.

....a front snug with stained glass windows behind, along the lines of the Crown Posada could be classy....

PS here's the Dynatron in its usual location

What a wonderful looking pub :D And having a Dynatron on the bar just makes it even more special :D

I no longer have any BJH on vinyl but intend to rectify that deficiency this year ;)

Its such a nice feature Jim, maybe you should pitch for the maintenance contract :-D . The pub in now part of the Sir John Fitzgerald Group which I don't imagine carries a record player maintenance department. It would be awful if it broke down one day, and it ended up on a skip because the corporate management decided fixing it was impossible or uneconomic.

Regards Neil

Then again....maybe its just the case and there are some modern innards lurking inside, or its supplied and serviced by "Retro Radios and Record Players Ltd" of Newport Pagnell......only a Sandan would know :!: :-D
