Hello all, can I use a larger (length) oil filter on a 407 2.0 Petrol model instead of the shorter OEM one? I have one from Volkswagen here. The center hole at the top is a bit larger than the 407 mounting port in the car but there is a fix to that- just want to know if it will be ok to use a bigger one without it messing with any Oil pressures or what not.
thanks

Re: Using Larger Oil filter
Unless you know that the filter strains down to the same micron size and has a life equal or better I wouldn't recommend trying to make it fit. Personally I would rather use the correct filter and replace it twice as often.
I don't know whether this is a replaceable element type or a canister type but if the latter there's also the possibility of an anti-flowback valve being fitted.

its a large canister bomb looking thing. I have no idea about micron filtration and stuff. It says on the canister, "replace every 2 years or 10,000 Miles" I cant seem to upload a pic,

10,000 miles is not a great amount so it's hardly a long-service filter. I still can't understand why you'd want the hassle.

Or maybe like me he has an abundance of redundant filters in his shedStickyfinger wrote:GuessPaul-R wrote:10,000 miles is not a great amount so it's hardly a long-service filter. I still can't understand why you'd want the hassle.

A make and part number (of the filter) would help for giving advice. The filter companies tend to give a lot of specifics in their catalogues so you would be able to find the back flow valve an micro filtration details.

Re: Using Larger Oil filter
I do have a few oil filters around- got one from Fram Europe. My latest one is from VW- but it cant work- even with a threaded adaptor- as another member pointed out, it will prevent proper sealing.
