REMOTE BATTERY

Unread post by ACTIVE8 »

I would like to change the battery in the remote control fob for my Xantia.
Looking around I have not found the exact type of battery with the corresponding number on it.
So, is the CR2032 type that looks similar a replacement for the old CR1620.

No - the first 2 digits (20 or 16) refer to the diameter of the cell, and the last 2 digits (32 or 20) refer to the depth (or thickness) of the cell. So if the original is a CR-2032 only a CR-2032 will properly replace it.

Well the original was actually the CR 1620.
So are you saying that the CR 2032 will not suit at all.
There seems to be space for the extra diameter in the remote battery compartment, can't be sure about the thickness short of buying a battery, and trying it. Although I think it might be that, the extra depth (or thickness) might be a problem.
Is the original CR 1620 still available ?
If it is please could you advise where, as so far I have not found them in the shops I have tried.

Maplin have these in stock. Either mail order or in store.

As these cells are often used in cameras and calculators you'll probably find that any good camera shop (or even Boots) should stock them.

It's been frustrating so far, because up to now I tried two branches of Halfrauds, with batteries located in two seperate different displays in both branches, and no luck or stock.
Or even intelligent staff. [:)]
I tried a central London branch of Boots, and looked in various other retailers, again no stock !
So I think that Maplins will be the best bet.
Thanks for the help, and information. [:)]
I will now get the correct battery.

Quite surprised that everyone has 2032 batteries in their remote, mine has 2025. Always has, works ok.

Mine (for the ZX - not the 2CV which knows nothing of such things) has 2 x 2016s, which should give a massive 6v when in good condition. Present range is approximately 6" from the window - must get some more batteries.

According to the handbook the batteries should be 2025.

The bigger the batteries you can get in it, the longer thay will last. Over here in Sweden, there's not much difference in price, so when my XM's remote started acting up I fitted the largest I could get in. As long as they are 3V lithium, they will do the job.

I wouldn't trust those eBay batteries. I spend an awful lot of time messing with laptops and these take similar batteries. I bought a load off eBay thinking I was getting ripped of by Maplin but when I used them they were all old and out of date and lasted about a week.
I get them from Maplin again now.

Well I managed to get a CR2025 and tried it out, but this will not fit in the battery holder in the remote control fob. It was from a small electrical outlet near my house, who do electrical supplies to the trade, but were short on the various sizes of battery available. As he sold it to me for free, with another item I needed. I had nothing to lose, and tried it out.

So, today I visited Maplins, and they had a large stock of every size available. I have not visited them for a while, so ended up spending about an hour in there, it was like being a child in a sweet shop. [:D]
With a direct match for what came out of both remote control fobs it now works a lot better. I think the signal emitted by both remotes were weak, because they wouldn't always work, and at times I had to stand with the remote held very close to the receiver in the roof of the car, when they played up !
I am surprised that the recommended size is different, from what actually physically fits.

Well the G.S.F. price & the Maplin price for a CR1620 are competitive, and affordable.
While the £3.99 for the same battery, I happened to notice while I was in Currys, getting something else is a joke.
It certainly does pay to shop around !
