Now that is interesting Steve... I have adverse reactions to any atmospheric pollution and to boot I have a hyperactive sense of smell...
I seem to have an increased sensitivity to smells but selective, some things pass me by completely but for instance I can always tell what is on the menu at the Komatsu factory about a quarter of a mile from where I work (indoors). Always Pizza on Thursday and they had Christmas pudding on the menu last week

Not just me then Wonder though if I'm the only one of us who would consider* the use of main beam as a form of "payback"
No, generally two wrongs don't make a right but I disobeyed my own advice this morning when a car driver behind me on my bike kept beeping at me to get out of his way - he was unable to pass due to heavy oncoming traffic and his need to get wherever he was going was clearly of greater priority than mine. As if beeping at me would either make me give way or somehow go as fast as he desired...
He got the sign of the international onanist as he sped past in a cloud of stink...
It made me feel better but I doubt he even noticed...

KFC, MaccyD's, Burgler King and the like want to make me throw up every time I'm in the vicinity of them. They smell disgusting... Needless to say I never patronise them unless I'm desperate. And then I regret it.
Not as bad as our works canteen. I just could not eat there based on the rancid stink of the place as I walk past it... Gawd knows what they must cook up in there...

100% with you there! The only time I ever use them is when there is no other option on a long journey. I go for the 'healthier' choices but I doubt it makes much difference! Mates always groan when they are gorging themselves on this muck and I make a comment about poisoning themselves!

In previous jobs (I am an EPoS engineer) I got to see behind the scenes at a few food outlets. I now would not go to Pizza Hut, I would have no problems with TFI Fridays, and (if I didn't have an issue with the prices) I would be more than happy with KFC (every branch I visited had very clean kitchens (OK, sometimes a bit of dirt, but that would be from that day, and cleaned up quickly)), as the proper KFC branches (and some franchises) had a timing system. As soon as anything went into the cooking process it was on a clock. Any that was still on the shelves when its' clock ran out was binned (certainly NOT reheated), as they took bacteria seriously.
If the wind is in the right direction I can tell when I am close to Banbury. The Kraft factory there (near to the large Tesco store) produces Kenco coffee, and it can be smelt from miles away.

I noticed that last time I went to Banbury James and it reminds me of when I used to visit Banbury as a little child... It was just the same then except the factory was called General Foods...
It's been stinking out Banbury for a good 50 years now

So Pizza Hut still has poor hygiene!! That's amazing because there was a documentary about 10 years ago highlighting just how bad they were! Concealed camera's even showed staff members gobbing into food when a customer complained!

Very rarely eat out anymore - just don't trust what I can't see! I occasionally use the KFC and Mac D, but always pick the chicken I want and get a grill in the other place so I know it's freshly cooked as far as possible! I won't eat out in pubs anymore - just watching Hotel Inspector - seeing some of those kitchens makes me want to reach for a bucket.

Same here. I've been thoroughly shocked at what I've seen on such programs, it is quite disgusting, and they have the audacity to charge exorbitant prices for such crap! Problem is that H&S don't have the resources to police hygiene in the many thousands of restaurants there are, they tend to act on tip off's.

All of us in my family are real foodies and only eat in very carefully selected places... Gastro-pubs and specialist restaurants usually... I like it when I can see the kitchen...
It's not often though, the cost is prohibitive. Always reserved for special occasions.
The only 'chains' I'm happy with are Wagamama and Yo Sushi. I love sushi
We're off to our local Polish Restaurant for our office Christmas do next week. Eaten there once before and it was truly excellent and well priced too...
My cousin Bob will, on the first time of trying a Chinese restaurant, always order a Pak Choi. As the various ingredients have different cooking times it is tricky to get it right. If it is all nice and crisp he will remember and use that restaurant again.
