Something I read in Scott Mueller's book "Upgrading and Repairing PCs" was that he had made a comprehensive modification to the electronics of his car. What he had was 3 modes. One mode was the standard ROM that the car came with, another ROM had a few tweaks to up the performance, and a third was for Valet Parking (with a top speed of around 20MPH). The modes were selected by the unlock code you entered onto the keypad.

I always fondly believe being a Xantia is in itself a theft deterrent!

Knowing insurance companies and their fondness for wringing every last penny out of honest motorists, I'd bet next years premiums that they'd actually class tattiness as a "modification" and load you up for it!!!

Oh yes, I once got a loading for admitting, jokingly, that I'd replaced black leather with cream... Taught me never to make a light-hearted quip like that again!

BUT, I also think they built up the entire engine and with the help of a CAD design just squeezed the engine in afterwards leaving the thickness of a fag paper all the way round ;D haha

Well actually, what they did was dangle a heater matrix from a length of cotton and then built the entire Xantia around that... Fag papers were their main method of measurement I'm sure

James, that's a clever bit of electronics... The valet parking option with mods would be good for young drivers and the missus too

Ahh, that picture brings back many 'happy' memories!!! Two days on your own is not bad... Two of us have managed it in a day but it's pushing it...

If I got to that stage I doubt it would ever go back together again.

Always good to know that these limited life components are designed for such easy replacement.
Most of these jobs end up with two washers left over at the end.
And some little strips of black felt.

If we ever needed a piccy for a Club Christmas Card, that could be it.

You XM owners are lucky... Heater matrix failure seems quite rare and if they do I understand they are not difficult to replace Chris...

The Xantia is exactly the opposite

I must have done or assisted in getting on for ten of them now...
