Tired of being cold - solved

Unread post by xsaras4ever »

Finally got tired of being cold and damp in our garage/shed.

4 hours later with the welder - SOLVED. Cost - scrap , wire and gas.

Its got a Citroen wheel as the fire-grate, so must qualify to be on the FORUM :rofl2: :rofl2:

You've almost got a clay oven there - all you need now are a few Naan Breads or Chapatis and you're away!

Hi Marc , funny that you say that - coz - we have already decided to connect it to the flexi chimney pipe in such a way that we can easily disconnect it in the summer and take it out-doors as a heater for the late summer evenings !!!

Thanks to all , terrible welding but we don't care.

That little wheel below the door is the locknut of a broken angle-grinder, made into a draught control - thats the bit we love the most - plus the heat of course !!!!! :) :) :)

Those are a must for me now. Working on a boat in driveway for a month now. I start the fire first thing in morning and get a warm up in garage between spells of outside. You can do bench work in there all day. My home made one is on the right and installed in garage. The flue is made from a lampost and about 2.5metres out through the roof. The other stove is one is out of a canal boat . I am going to fit it into a caravan I have in Ardnamurchan.

I do similar when I'm working outside on cars in the cold but sadly my heater is an industrial electric fan heater... It lacks the essential character of a proper fire but it does the job..

I love real fires and have never had a house with one yet or anywhere I can have a proper stove. I live in hopes that one day I can and most importantly I want an Aga cooker in my kitchen. A proper wood/anthracite burning one and not an imitation gas/oil/electric one!

That's my dream...

Those fan heaters are good for a small garage Jim. It saves having to chop this.

Wood keeps you warm FOUR times, Cutting, Splitting, Fetching and Burning :)

I have my wood burner lit for a week plus now :)

And the ash can be used to 'grit' the snow, if any falls, so is less damaging to a car than road salt.

Pity the councils don't realise this given the number of wood burners on the go these days up here .... should be no need for road salt at all !!

We spent several days one September in our caravan, towed behind our trusty BX19RD, on Ardnamurchan, at Acharacle. Got so windy the first night, we hand to turn the van 90deg to put the pointy end into the wind. The next morning, we noticed many of the other caravans were weighted down with steel wire and heavy rocks.

Didn't stop us from having a fabulous time up there: sandy beaches, Mull, Fort William, Kilchoan Castle, seals, and a fair bit of malt. Somewhere else to take Jim...
