I'd imagine everything Davie has been told about his Berlingo head gasket applies, as it's the same engine... with even less space and more awkwardness.

Haynes implies it can be can be done without removing the subframe, which makes it a bit easier than the Berlingo, but it's not going to be a walk in the park. If it's not got AC I'd be tempted to pull the engine out the front, do the HG and stick a new clutch in while you are there.

My tip for doing the head gasket on the berlingo ran to shoving it into the car auction tonight. It used 2 & 1/2 litres of coolant on the 40 mile run there. It was 3rd last out of 150 or so motors, most folk done before it went through so didn't get near the reserve. 2nd chance on Thursday. I spoke to a guy I know quite well while I was there, he did a hg on his wife's xsara, same engine again at 150000 miles and said he wished he had just got rid. He ended up with the gasket kit, timing belt kit and three injectors, the head skimmed and some valves reground. Cost him a fortune as well as being a pita to do.

I find them pretty straightforward to be honest - certainly not a difficult engine to work on.

I dont have any pointers really because like i said they are not a difficult engine to work on.

Slightly more difficult on the Expert based ones opposed to the Partner (Berlingo) based ones due to the power unit being a bit further set into the bay. I do recall that when someone wanted to do a clutch and the head gasket on one of these they dropped it all out, this was the rare XUDT Expert van. Unsure if its possible in situ (the head or not) on these.
