And as an added help the box may have G.Cartier written on it and be either blue or black with two thick wires bolted to terminals posts on it and a plug with the thin control wires connected to it...

Another 'find it' method is its likely to not be too far away from the battery. Check around the tray / rear of battery area and also underneath said tray if nothing else.
Exceptions to this (at least the ones I can recall!) are the 106D fitted on the opposite side to the coolant tank and the 205TD where it lives on the NS inner wing, kind of underneath the battery, exposed to road salt (a sensible design!)

Just like the Automatic Gearbox ECU in the Xantia V6 then... Terrible location...spider wrote:kind of underneath the battery, exposed to road salt (a sensible design!)

So it's the same relay as say, a ZX TD? we have one of those, brand new, that came with our ZX (I reinstated the original one as it was the glow plugs at fault anyway, no surprise there) so could possibly substitute it in future. I remember that being a G. Cartier part. All good for now though, struck up first ask this morning tooAnd as an added help the box may have G.Cartier written on it
Perhaps it was fuel "drain back" from the return line after all. Nice and dry inside this morning too.
Thanks all, for the advice on finding the GP relay. I'll have another scout round when I get a moment just to make sure the connections are good.

It may be but the relay may be unique to the 2.1TD... You'd need to cross-check part-numbers...
Lucas EPIC system are very critical about the integrity of the injector leakoff pipes. Any air ingress or perishing will cause drain-back. They may not even look wet...
Replace them as a matter of course if in any doubt at all......
The other prime source of drain-back is the fuel filter...
If she starts OK after a pump of the primer bulb then that will be your problem...

Re: Back at it again, 406 2.1DT this time :)
Found the Relay, it hides under the throttle quadrant on the 406
appears to function fine according to multimeter (bit of a squeeze, easier if I'd unbolted a couple of bits lol)
Good point Jim, you did mention about the leakoff pipes previously and I totally forgot. Does seem OK since tightening the loose clip the other day but a proper check of glow plugs, pipework and a clean up of the top end are on the cards for the near future anyhow.
Thanks for the reminder
